Now what?
Picked up a great aero / pap short middle seat for my 21 deluxe
Problem is mine is a ‘67🤣. I didn’t realize it was one year only. Can I make it work ?

Ive read through here but I’m still not sure on the seats I have. From the pictures at the beginning i think 66 but I’m not sure on the legs as some I’ve seen have the diagonal brace in them and some don’t?
If someone can confirm the year I’d really appreciate it.
Ive also a rear seat that must have been from a different bus as the covers don’t match. The year of that isn’t so important but it would be nice to know.

Rear seat looks to be salt n pepper material..found in '65-'67 buses _________________ 1959 mango-trailerbus

With '67 being just a smidge narrower on the backrest if. Also rear seat is non-commercial having heat-seams. |

Thanks for confirming the year. Would the 67 rear be narrower back to allow for seat belts or for any other reason? |

Are ‘67 rear seat backrests narrower?
I thought it was just the deluxe luggage bar.
That back seat looks like a 66-67 deluxe mesh platinum rear seat to me. I don’t think it’s salt and pepper. |

Or should I sell and replace? Would this be safe? Only using the two mounts ?

Unsafe unless it is used just as bus filler- nobody you like should ride in it. I can't help but think someone here would respond to an ad for a trade. Perhaps somebody has the opposite fitment problem. _________________

I'm probably wrong. I have had both '65s and a '67 but never laid them side by side. Now they are OCTOgone. I was only going on what I thought people had posted about the '67 back being a bit narrower for ease of removal and installation. I even thought the brackets were one year only or else they had longer slots. |

It’s not correct, but I suppose I could replace the floor with an earlier mounting pattern. _________________ '67 deluxe bus w/the little windows

SHEESH I feel like such a dweeb and have awarded myself the Waldo Award for posting this ^^^^^.
After I posted I actually thought about it and realized I had measured to correct myself in another thread. So...I searched and found this:

From Lind regarding 67 seats:

it is slightly narrower. the seat is one year only also because the mounts for the uprights are set closer to the middle. |

This quote starts out "it is"..., meaning the bar or the seat?
I just measured an October '67 Kombi rear backrest across the bottom back frame as that was where I could get the tape the tightest. It was 61.5".
I then measured a '65 Delux and it was the same.
Both seats' mounting brackets look just like the one Everett posted. |
From this thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=580776&start=0
I'll punish myself for it all and try not to blow again it in the future. |

I have read all the info and I am still unsure our seat is a 67 or 68. The brackets look like 68 but it doesn’t have the release knob on the side like other early bay 3 seaters I’ve had before. Any opinions?

From another thread Everett posted in:
EverettB wrote: |
Not sure on the cover difference but 67 seats have the cross bars on the legs so easier to identify.
The '67 seat also has the leg by the cargo door up under the seat instead of right at the edge.
The '67 seat also has a grab handle that comes up from the rear only instead of a full circle
'67 seat:
Earlier seat, this is from a '64

I did not know '67 had that style arm rest. To me it's going to catch on purses or clothing but easier to get in and out of.
It also answers my question of what type4split was asking at the top of the thread.
Does anyone have a side-by-side of '67 short middle seat vs Bay short middle seat? |

Basically I'm looking for a short middle seat for my '65 Deluxe.
Because I can't find one in europe (or when, it's so expensive I can't buy it with a good mood), I think about transform or rebuild a seatbench out of a baywindow.
I believe the seat frame isn't a problem.
But the armrestbar will be tricky without a example.
So, is there maybe someone who would measure all lengths, angels and (bending)radii for me?
I made a sketch from the bar, I need just the three lengths, the four angels and radius and the position of the armrest drillholes.
many many thanks if someone would do this for me |

The handle on the back like that is Bay Window but I'm not sure on the side release and when that was introduced.
I thought it was on there from 1968-onward
Maybe it's been recovered and they disabled it? _________________ How to Post Photos

I don't have the dimensions you asked for, but I also used a short bay seat for my split bus.
This is the result
The right leg was repositioned and the bow of the armrest completed.
The armrest is shaped different than it should be for a split bus, but thats Ok for me. If you are interested in some more pics, let me know. |

Picked this up a few weeks ago. Upholstery is in great shape (for its age) and frame is good. Any tips on the year would be greatly appreciated. It will be going in my '66 Bus. 64-67?

That's a beauty! That is correct for a '66 sea blue/cumulus white deluxe bus. The material is aero papyrus/steel(2 yr only material) _________________ 1959 mango-trailerbus

Very Cool! Thanks Much! It's going in a Kombi, but I will save its current state for the right person that comes along. |
