I could be wrong, but that looks like a red letter Probefahrtkennzeichen- experimental works license plates on the Porsche.
In Zuffenhausen they probably swapped engines between the bus and the Spyder. You know the Schwaben guys. they always want to save on production cost, and why not trying a 30hp ( 36hp SAE for the US guys) in the 550 ? Probably preparing for the 36hp challenge @ Bonneville. on the other hand, the bus with the 100hp Fuhrmann motor was about 1hr ahead at the time Photo was taken. the test driver had to wait for the Porsche for a long time obviously. otherwise he wouldn't have gotten so cold, he even had to put on his coat and hat...brrr _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Do you think that is a vent above the engine vents?
Also, ouch on that lower rear corner and tailllight |
It looks like the same vent that is on the front of the dr. Otto something or other pudding buses. I've also seen the same vent on their logo bus towing a logged box trailer..

the wrong way around! now the Eis (Icecream) flag is wrong !
Blue Barons version was correct! the Milk and Champagne sign is to the other side of the vending hut and we are looking at the backside (of probably painted glass). Pretty sure it must be Austria, because 2 or 3 DM would be much too expensive for a glass of Milk and Pfennig would be much too little.
2 öS or 3 Austrian Schilling (0.3DM) sound pretty reasonable for the 1950s when you could get 3 songs from a jukebox for 1 Schilling or a chocolate bar for 5 öS. ( sorry for lots of Trivia)
BTW all of this could only happen in Bavaria or Austria at some kind of Jahrmarkt (countryside fair) or tourist camping area. ( according to the Lederhosen, tents and lake in the background, possibly Attersee)..... Milk and Champagne getting sold at the same time in summer along with Icecream from a mushroom shaped hut ( which typically is a good luck charm winter season greeting for New Year). That pic is absolutely crazy and hilarious in a typical manner for that area. That makes me feel good to live here ! _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

I'd love to see more pictures of that. Was it a one-off or part of a fleet?
I've seen the pictures of the later splitty version that's in the US. Didn't know there was a barndoor equivalent. _________________ Andy

I have no idea! I know that the company Werle & Son (Zoon) was located in Deventer, The Netherlands.
They had something to do with steel production.

It looks like the door is crimped, beaded, and sealed to the dogleg and b pillar. However they did it, it adds a cool touch to the look. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz
