This seems useful when you are stuck, just yell into the huge speakers HELP
I like the reversed vent wings
What were the speakers for? Did they play something or yell as you drove through a neighborhood with something for sale and people could come outside to buy it? _________________ How to Post Photos

Something happened between the two pictures to the door handle. Did they tie the tow rope to it? _________________ Prosit!

no, only the earliest buses if not only the prototypes had the front opening piano hinge vent wings. they were mostly piano hinged in the front. maybe a M ehraussstattung for pre Dez 52 buses ? makes sense for hot climate.
this is an early bus, seems to have short upper panel cargo vents ( mid 51 down) and possibly early front rain gutters ( 50). not sure. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

I have pics of 50,51 and 52s with the reverse piano hinge. Probably a hot climate thing like you said. But a factory option as it was demonstrated in original VW literature. Including on Central European (so not that hot ) buses. _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

Is there a known M code for that ? I looked through Eccles M code list and couldn't find one, Maybe I missed it or it wasn't listed. Do you think it was connected to the Safari window option ? the Brazilian above bus doesn't seem to have Safaris.

No known M-code.
I doubt it’ll be linked to safaris. From the pictures I can tell of buses with suicide quarterlights they don’t have safaris. In fact I have only ever seen evidence of 1 piano hinge quarterlight bus with OG safaris and I believe that was one of the last 52s and was a demonstration bus for the up and coming safaris offered from 53. _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

One of my buses had that but if I recall it looked like it was not professionally done ... _________________ (20-024785)Ambulance (20-037784)truck (20-035850)panel

original location in Vienna. Linke Wienzeile 4. unfortunately it looks very dull today ( like the hybrid taxi) and the glamour of the 1950s has faded away.
Kino Wienzeile was a cinema and they were just promoting the latest Austrian Kitsch movie, loosely based on an an Operetta from Fred Raymond (Vesely).
Die Perle von Tokay was filmed/produced in 1953/4. so the pic above probably dates from 1954.
I love that era and its a pity that most all of it has vanished.
this is the original movie poster that is actually displayed on the DLX. couldnt find a higher resolution pic.

Can we assume the second Bus in the line-up is probably primer? It doesn't have the gloss of the other Buses beside it and the bumper and VW emblem are all the same color? _________________ My Beetles :

I was trying to find the other picture the other day to see if it was in that.
I wondered if they fiddled the production order so the 1,000th bus was a shiny one that would look good in promotional pictures, rather than the primer one next door. _________________ Andy
