good talking with you guys at The Classic
Here's a set of type 3 drop spindles with cross drilled and slotted Porsche pattern rotors and 4 piston Wilwoods.
This is the first set that I've done with the 4 piston caliper mounts.

What disc brakes are you using, since you have wide 5's?
The car looks good. |
Sorry I never replied. I didn't get an e-mail alert and I never came back here to look.
Anyways, the front disc brake kit is AC Industries Wide five for ball joint beetle. I made the drop spindles from drum brake type 3 spindles and redid the mounting holes for the caliper brackets. It stops great.
In the future if you or anyone has questions about anything VW call me at Old Speed 562 531 4190. I don't get on here as often as I would like to. |

I like those speedmaster wheels, what kind of tire/size are you running on them?
15 x 5" +21 for the wheel size I'm guessing. Just the right vintage speed look. I'm getting tired of my rattle can painted, dinged up stock rims. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

i have a more question.
1- where you buyer at lin pink customized
2- As you did for the attack wheel? I can drill the original drum or you have to put the adapters?I did not want to put the adapters because they widen the roadway... _________________ my car in progress: http://recidivo.tumblr.com/ |

Russell,
Thanks for all the help this past weekend. When you come to Hawaii we'll go for a ride in our rides with your dropped spindles, disk brake, and narrowed arms.
From the boys in Hawaii,
MAHALO Brian |
Aloha Russell,
It's been about a year and the car is about 99% done. Check it out with your spindles. Could be lower but I like it as it is for now. Also shipped it to the Big Island Bug In last month. Great times and some decent ET's for my daily driver (12.0-12.03's all day). http://s174.photobucket.com/user/brisonboy/media/IMG_1622_zps4dc1e1b8.mp4.html .10 passes in one day and some with the AC on too . See you at the Classic next month.
Thanks for all your help.

Here's a few pics of our one inch narrowed arms.
Squareback has one inch arms and Zero offset drop spindles and genuine Fuchs six. Not super narrow but awesome ride and good turning radius. |

Does anyone else make set of drop spindles for a type 3 nowadays? Just picked up a 66 Squareback and want to get as low as possible and retain some travel/ride quality. Thanks for the help! |

yes
same price exchange. But why with the availability of disc brakes in any bolt pattern? |

Sorry for the late reply.
I have a 64 notch. The PO put 66-71 disk brakes on it. Also, the CB rear disk kit, which is a POS. The pistons of the rear calipers are both leaking. It's not safe so basically, I can't drive the car, which is frustrating.
The car has short axles on it. So, investigating what to replace the rear brakes with, which will probably lead to me replacing the fronts to match. (Why couldn't i have been born rich instead of good looking?)
Been looking at the CoolRydes Cool Stop front and rear kit. The front requires drum spindles. I'd also like to lower it with drop spindles so I have better front suspension that matches the stock steering geometry. So, that is why I asked.
Most likely what will happen is I put drum brakes back on the rear and just getting drop spindles to reuse the stock calipers. But exploring options in case I win the lotto. |

BTW, love your work. Really enjoy your IG page.
