PostPosted: Mon Apr 11, 2005 6:09 pm    Post subject: New seller, Advice? Reply with quote

I recently put my first ad on the samba. Iv'e never sold online before. I decided to sell some VW stuff instead of just hoarding it.

I got some response to the ad with some newbie type questions such as,"what is NOS, what is NLA, Is this an electrical item?"

The buyer eventually sent me payment.
I shipped him the part and emailed him the tracking number.

This is my ad: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=161826

I tried to be as clear about what I was selling as possible and take photos that clearly illistrated what I was selling.

Did I do OK?

I sent the buyer exactly what was photographed and described.

Now he is emailing me saying his car has grey knobs and I should have sent grey knobs and I must do something to fix the problem.

After he sent payment he said his car had grey knobs but,"place in the box the additional knobs you said".

I emailed him back explaining that I shipped him EXACTLY what I photographed and described, stated my intentions to honestly sell a quality product at a good price and I never said I had."grey knobs".

I sold this part at a price I consider very low and threw in an extra to make this a good deal.

Normally I probably would have asked for more $$ but this was and experiment to see if I wanted to start selling online.

Now I'm worried that he's going to come into this forum and trash my as yet unproven name.

I have some VW parts I would like to sell and see parts in the wreckers That I think should be salvaged instead of melted down or sent to the landfill, but I'm not a charity. I would like to save some parts, pass them on and make a little money while I'm at it.

I feel I have met my obligations to this buyer.
What do you more experienced sellers think?

Is this a typical transaction or one of the bad ones?

I would really like to be an honest seller but I don't know if I want to go through the trouble if it is not appreciated. It's much easier to just sell at swap meets to people who don't know your name or email address.

I hope this thread is apropriate for the forum.

Thanks in advance.

if you sold what was exactly in your ad- then too bad, so sad the buyer should have asked any questions prior to buying...or not purchased at all. i get so tired of people complaining after the fact...as a side note- i always put (SOLD AS IS) in my ads.

You said the knob was ivory. What part of that didn't the buyer understand? Rolling Eyes

Thanks guys. I thought it was pretty clear cut too, but I wanted to get some objective opinions to make sure.

SOLD AS IS is a good idea.

Direct quote from the ad. I'd like to see the buyers justification here.

Your ad sounds better than most and you sound very honest based on your posting above.

Thank you Samba and Sambanistas!

I just received a reply to my last email to the buyer.

He thanked me for the clarification and appologized for misunderstanding. Then he asked if I had any more parts for sale. Very Happy

I told him I'd keep an eye out for any grey wiper switch knobs and if I found them I'd give him a good deal.

My faith in VW people is restored. All is well in Sambaville Cool
