Anyone use or have an opinion of the stock muffler from Cip1? Far less money than GMW....about $170 with this months 10% discount.

By the looks of it, it's the same muffler that GMW sells. I'm probably going to pick one up from Cip1 myself. Even if it's crap, it will be better than the Monza Bug muffler I have now.

Curious, what do the stock mufflers look like? I understand there are two of them? Just J tubes or since the heater on a 73 is in the trunk?

The 73s are different than the 74s. I think they are talking about the 74s.

While not exactly the same these are pretty close to stock 73 mufflers:

...except on OEM '74 mufflers the pipes don't attach like that- they attach with bolts & gaskets like they do on the pictured '73 muffler. Plus there's a VW logo in the center of the muffler section. Otherwise it looks similar to that repro '74 muffler.

I've ordered mine from Cip1....I will let you know how it is. Like Luni says it looks just like the one from GMW, theirs is $300.
