For a moment I thought you were talking about the master cylinder on your 67.

jmp,
where did you order the sample of limba from? i assume they shipped you the veneer. i havent been able to locate anyone in the nc area that will supply limba. the link you listed is overseas and i would like to order from a co. based in the us as shipping would probably be cheaper.
anyone have any trick for mimicking the yellow color of limba using birch?
the bay westy pannels look as if they have a different white tinted finish to them and look completly different from the split pannels.

velvetgreen Link above is the place! I thought I had posted that link down in the past.
If you have a cabnet shop contact them you will get better deals ect.
I have a 12" x 8 foot sample and it's perfect.
The cabnet were made out of Lumber core plywood and the rest is venear core. Also its quater sawn Limba venear for the early Westfalia late use spiral cut (cheaper).

I was just talking with Greg about this limba ply and veneer last sunday. I would be interested in some if anyone is going to make an order of some sort. I work at a custom woodworking shop, so I might be able to bring the material in for less...Ill do some research.

Hi Guys, I am from Quebec City and one of my friend who work at a local wood supplier has a contact to get Limba applied as finnishing layer on what ever wood we want.
I am currently waiting for a cote. I think that it would be perfect to redo the cabinets.
If it works, I have planned to start to redo some bowll cabinets.
I will keep you guys posted....

I'm late to the game on this one but I've got some connections that may be useful. I have had custom plywood made up for me for a couple jobs in the past and could look into this, but not being the westy expert I'd need to know exactly what is needed. limba is the wood, but what are the panel thicknesses and sizes needed? If I could get a concise material list I can have my supplier quote me a price. I will warn everyone though that this isn't cheap. The last job I did was for 3/4" zebra wood ply and it cost me $525 per sheet for 6 sheets. I'm willing to help but I'd need some direction.

Here is the finishing we could have:

I am not enough expert to determine if it is either sawn/quarter sawn/rotary, but from what I can see this is quite close from what we have in our westies.

The most important to come the minimum order quantities and price...

I would definitely be interested in the veneer. Even with the plywood, you still have the edges to contend with. Having both would be ideal!

that's not rotary cut. Rotary could have no seams - like the log was unrolled like a roll of toilet paper. Looks to be just plain sliced, but I have no experience with limba to know by the grain. Are there seams on the OG veneered cabinets?

Ok, thanks for the rotary definition.
Look at the picture that I picked up from the galery, we can see the headliner with slices:

for me the sample I showed up above and what is displayed as original is quite close.

that veneer on the roof is what is called "slip matched". Of course that level of detail is getting pretty picky, but if the source has options like that then you may as well get it slip matched.

that sample looks pretty close, better than any birch would look, that's for sure. how much is the minimum order, and do you have a price.
