I got my motor out of my Ghia, so I thought I would replace the clutch. Is it necessary to replace the throwout bearing as well? When I grab the transmission input shaft, I can move it up and down some (like .020" each way). The shaft is of course supported by the gland nut as well, so how important is it anyway?
Also, I've got the pressure plate with the three big springloaded 'claws' on it as opposed to the modern ones. The contact point shows some wear, but I'm not sure if it warrants a replacement. Can I replace it with a modern one like this one?

It seems so inexpensive not to just replace the whole shabang. Sure is easy to get to right now.
Thanks,

Play in the input shaft like that is normal.. it is supported by the needle bearing in the gland nut when engine is installed.
What year trans do you have... you may need this style PP instead if you have a 70 or earlier

And yes I would do everything...get the kit and check the trans mounts while your there... may want to consider pulling the flywheel and do the crank seal and flywheel o-ring too. |
