You know it! A deserving post to hit 100, if there ever was one.

Quintin, how about doing this with the split?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2433315860

You would definately deserve a kick in the ass then...

Holy SHIT!
I only occasionally check the Reader's Rides section.
Little did I know that was where the REAL ACTION is?
Looks like the Rants moved up a line in the ol' HTML listing.

Quintin,

As usual your stuff looks great! I have never seen a GFK car that I did not like and that shows alot about the integrity and well balanced stature of the club. Skim's,Trayle's etc stuff is always killer and you guys never fail to take each vehicle to the next level.

People need to realize that without the custom car end of the hobby the whole automotive movement would not even be 5% of what it is today! Without custom vehicles the factory correct models would not have the value they do. Without the Cal Look movement and HOT VW's magazine our beloved cars would more than likely not have the success and overwhelming acceptance they do today.

Stock cars show history and let us remember good and bad things we have experienced along the way. Custom touches show personality and creativeness. No matter which you choose there should not be negative feelings either way. We all share a common bond in this hobby and I can admit that there are people that are my friends because of this great hobby that I probably would have never associated with had it not been because of my passion for the ole' mighty Volkswagen.

Keep doing what you guys do as it make a huge differnce for the better both for the value of our cars as well as the integrity of them. All the bitter individuals are what brings it down.

Long Live GFK

Jesus some of you people are angry.. I'm sorry if I came off as an asshole, I'm actually not one (well somewhat). I just hate seeing a nice old split bug with goofy looking stuff bolted to it. (although those mirrors are very cool) You're right it can be easily changed back to normal. Years back, some guy a couple towns over found an oval dash split with almost no rust and it was reasonably intact. He proceeded to bastardize the shit out of it. Last I heard he was picked up on drug charges, but the car was a mess by the time he was done with it. So whenever I see a split with all that junk I'm reminded of that poor hacked one. But that You're right it can be easily changed back to normal. So I'm sorry if I offended anyone. And I'm sorry I have a differing opinion and for posting it in a public forum. I am a bad person. And yes my barndoor is a deteriorating piece of shit, I'm aware of that. Thankyou for the reminder Zamboni and "Trayle D" , for a moment I thought it was a decent vehicle. But you dont think there are people who do stuff just to 'piss off the purists' ? I see it all the time! I'm no purist either, (my bug isnt all stock neither will the bus be) but doing stuff just to bug them is kinda silly isnt it? Question Confused

I would hardy consider chrome porshe rims goofy stuff thrown on a bug? rethink what your saying, he hasnt cut anything on it. its far from ruined, he can easily bring it back to stock!!

to be honest completly stock trailer queens are no fun..... atleast he can have fun with this one!!

i read them all, and damn it, it's my turn.
where would vws be if not for the custom scene?
i've been into vws here in so cal since the early 80s when old vws were practical affordable starter cars for teens like me. the only cool dubs then were slammed and rolling on porsche fuchs with temporary tires. you could buy a solid split bug or bus for under a grand, and the german folks were there, doing their thing.
i remember admiring their work then. that club, if in fact it is the same one, was largely responsible for my 20+ year passion for vws. their clean custom (cal) look was a fixture at parks and cruise strips before i ever heard of the shows and meets so common these days. i vowed to buy & fix up a vw shortly thereafter, and so began my vw passion. sure, now i like the og specimens, but i still want my custom paint, chromed out, safaried, big-engined, dropped, rolling on 4.5" porsche alloys. my bus now sports most its "correct" stock parts, but is destined for full resto-custom treatment, ala german folks style that i envisioned so long ago.
the fact that yet another 50s era vw was saved is enough for me and should be enough for 'wink'.

Can't wait to See it at the next show!

You guys are pretty funny Laughing

Has he done any irreversible damage to the car? If one of you "purists" purchased it tomorrow would it take you more than a few dollars in parts and an afternoon to revert it to stock condition, if you were so inclined?

I have a '57 oval and it would soon be slammed with Raders an aftermarket ragtop and a new engine.

Its not quite as vintage as your 50's split but it is vintage compared to most ACVW's seen on the streets.

My '57 is my daily driver and it will stay that way. I know its a vintage car but im going to do what i want done to it.

I also in the near future thinking about making it an air ride.

Man, don't let these people discourage you. That is YOUR car not they'res you do what you want to it. I dig the wheels and narrowed beam. now you gotta throw a supercahrged 40 horse in it.
Oh while you're at it you might as well just paint flames! haha Just kiddin.

Being a true purist, in that I love and will only drive a stock car, I will say that there is nothing done to these cars that can not easily be reversed in an afternoon.
