My 1st car was an Austin A30 with a Morris 1000 engine and gearbox and a real bodge job it was, reflected in it’s cost of just £11.10shillings (Before decimalisation).
2nd car was a Beatle not sure what year. Drove it around Germany and visited all countries on its boarders apart from the eastern block. Started at the 1972 German Grand Prix Nuremburg Ring. |

My first car was a 1971 Toyota Corolla 2 door notch. The nickname for this body style was Peanut. Dark green, 1200cc engine, 12" wheels, 4 speed manual transmission, and not much else. Got it in late 1977.
My first VW was a 1979 Rabbit L, bought in 1982. Amazing car for the time. Quick and agile. I used to run away from much faster cars in traffic.
Prior to the Corolla, I attempted to learn to drive a standard in my Dad's 1971 Beetle. I wasn't very successful for a number of reasons, the bottom hinged pedals and the teacher being two of them. I successfully taught myself in the aforementioned Corolla. |

Thank you for that picture! Wow, the memories.
That's actually a coupe, not a sedan, or notchback like I had as my first car. My second car was a coupe like the one in the picture.
My '72 coupe had a 1600cc engine and 13" wheels, a big step up from the first one.
Either one of them would run circles around a Beetle of that time (which I did on occasion). _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? My first car was a gold 1978 Honda Civic Hatchback but I was infatuated with a 1974 VW Thing that a neighbour had rebuilt but it was 3x the price of the Honda Civic. My 2nd vehicle was a 1973 VW Panel Bus and now I have a 76 Westy. _________________ *******************************

1961 Beetle, beryl grun, in 1966. It was 5 years old but rusted out like crazy. The education on all other beetles was and is priceless. I have owned VWs continually since the BEGINNING. |

First car was a 1964 Rambler American 440(model not displacement) 2 door coupe. This was the upscale model with automatic and 2-bbl 196 CID. Gas mileage was excellent as I recall. Steering was tough as there was no power assist even available. It helped to have smaller diameter tires in front and pumped up. |

First Car was a 1985 1.3 CitiGolf. Got it in 1991. The CitiGolf was a South Africa Special where VW continued selling the Golf 1 in refreshed Colour schemes as an entry level VW while the Golf 2 was already being sold. _________________ From the VW stable:

1973 Imperial Lebaron 4 door hardtop. Leather interior, dual air conditioning with automatic climate control.,power vent windows, 7.2 liter V8, and 5300 lbs. Still own it. Bought it for $150. First VW was a tired 67 bug, then a 74 412 wagon, then a 1980 rabbit diesel with a half million miles. A 1985 Scirocco, and a 2002 beetle TDI. Now own a 74 Love bug edition identical to the one my family owned when I was a kid. |

1959 karman Ghia. Paid $59 pans and heater channels were solid but front quarters and air vents were rotted. Engine ran strong but popped outa 1st gear. Welded and bonded myself to a usable car. Driven for a year or so and sold it to buy a 46 Jeep which I still have.
Bought a 70 square Back to drive to and from school. This was a great car!!!
Now have a 70 vert
