I grew up with Porsches ( Dad had a 1960 356B Cabriolet) but couldn't afford one so bought a 1968 Tr-250, 1 year only car Tr-5 in UK.

Mine was a 1975 Porsche 914. Black with a blue tint to the paint and Rivieras on it. Busted my ass fixing it up, got it running and all I had to do was wait to turn 16 to get my license. I come home from school one day and the car is gone and no one is home. I hear my mom's car pull up and just as I get outside a flatbed pulls up with my porsche on it and there is a huge tree mark where the front trunk used to be. Come to find out she let her jobless, carless sack of shit boyfriend borrow it and he wrapped it around a tree! Car was totaled and I never saw a dime of payment. Needless to say for that and other reasons I haven't talked to my mom in over ten years! Evil or Very Mad

Nice first ride!! Since you already have it...I hope you keep that thing for a long time! So many people come up to me talking about when "I used to have one of those". I think we all have a special connection with our first car. So you get the best of both worlds...

Thanks and I intend to keep it for quite some time. Wink

I don't think I could bring myself to sell it anyway.

my first car was a 72 pinto(KABOOM), i traded it to my aunt because she couln't drive a stick for her 64 beetle. My uncle said you couldn't get parts for it anymore cause it was too old, duh, learned everything about bugs because of that car. miss that one. red with brick red interior and only one windshield wiper. 2 weeks after i got it, i had fixed all the halfass attempts of his repairs. he said it would cost a fortune to fix it, had it all done for a little over $100. they're divorced now, that guy was a real dickhead

Volvo 544. It was probably around a 60 paid $850.00 for it. Of course I wanted a Corvette but couldn't afford one. The volvo had 4 on the floor bucket seats and independent suspension - the closet I could get to th evette. It was green (original color) and the interior, also original, was red and white. Still not sure how those colors go together. Ran out of gas on my first date - thought I was going to get something and I did - gas.

71 GSX stage 1 455. Got hammered and let a friend drive me home. Well he decided to Joyride it after getting me to the door. The rest is history and a life lesson learned as the outcome was as you would expect. Sad

my first car that i just recently bought was a 1967 beetle sedan. it came with nearly everything, and i got it just in time because it was about to be bastardized into a baja! i am almost 15, however, and cannot exactly drive it yet. doesn't really matter though, as it is going to take me a couple years to get it driveable. far from original, though, as it has two different colored red front fenders, and it was sprayed krylon black over the nice VW blue that was the original color. still trying to figure out the size of the motor; all i know is that it is a single port motor. one of the worst parts of the car is the fact that the glovebox door was welded shut then covered with a nice thick layer of bondo. runs good, except the fact that it doesn't go into third or fourth gear. got it for 500 bucks Very Happy

My first car was a '74 Beetle that I bought for $300 in 1986. It burned to a crisp in 1990-ish after taking it out of storage and not inspecting the fuel lines. Embarassed I've had many VW's since, my last being a '69 Westy that I sold to my brother a couple years ago. He drove it from Maine to Florida where it still resides. I have been missing owning an air cooled ever since.

So here's the better part of the story...I celebrated my 40th birthday yesterday and came home from picking up my kids from school to find a '68 Beetle in my driveway, complete with bow on top. My wife bought me a Beetle from my birth year! Shocked How cool is that?
