First, does anyone recognize this style hitch, and what is it?
Second, how many early hitches are there?

A friend asked me to see if another friend had a westy hitch for his early bus. I have no idea what a westy hitch looks like. Can anyone give a little lesson on these?

I've got another style that came on my 65. I couldn't find any marks on it, but it mounts to the rear tranny mount, and to the bottom of the bumper. Shocked

I want to get rid of it, I have no need for a tow hitch.

I got a "run of the mill" hitch on beefed up bus bumper brackets. I then grafted a repro bumper unto it. Cool

Hey Guys The hitch in the first pix looks like a bay window hitch too narrow for a split I have 2 split hitches and the spread much wider they use big u clamps that attach to the torsion bars and bolt to the bumper in the rear some had a bracket that attacted to the bumper , The reason they are spreaded wider is the cross frame under the tranny gets in the way on a split and a bay doent have this cross frame later Mark Dearing

I have a hitch for a Type 1 that is identical to that one based on the pictures. I have a couple of Westy hitches around here. I'll see if I can get some photos when I get a chance, although I'm a little slow, so don't hold your breath Smile

A real Westfalia hitch will set you back at least $700 but more like a grand!!

Check the distance between the two holes for the U bolts and see how that compares to the diameter of the torsion tube of the vehicle you want to put it on. If that is right and it is long enough to reach out from under the vehicle you would probably be in luck.
