Saw this bus in 1995-96 and now it was time for the owner to sell after being in storage since then. Particulars:
28 12 0
388 F23 181
KV 231 SK 654C 705767
Came fairly complete with just a couple of interior bits missing. Also orange/white stripped tent w/ change room in red/white tent bag,,, complete with yellow and gray stake bag..... Really good condition!!
I am 3rd owner... 2nd owner having had it since 16 and he obtained it form his uncle who purchased it new. Contacting 2nd owner to find more details.......
Has optional ice box as well and previous owner added one deluxe skylight in roof just behind drivers door..........night time star gazing while in bed??
Has rust issues but nothing that can't repaired and comes with running 1600 cc DP converted to 12 volts. Funky SW/MW/LW radio with antennae mounted on front edge of drivers door... Now the fun part in cleaning it starts....
Anyway, nice addition in the garage with my '67 SO 42. Great thanks to Dave and John in letting me buy this beauty! |

Did they graft in the whole frame for that skylight window? Any pictures? Sounds like an awesome find... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

Here is a pic of the 1961 SO23 Westfalia that I just purchased:
Can't seem to stack the rest of the pics in this reply without being timed out............so search kintail in the gallery and you shall see the rest.
Correction in that I am the fourth owner of the bus (not third). On the plus side everything is present except the original Westfalia upholstery, curtains, cups and wash basin.
On the negative it does have rust that is not too good.......... but still fixable given the other more rust affected examples seen on the Samba being repaired of late. |

Sweet Westy!
I actually think that the skylight is kind of cool...... _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.

Topeka Tours? So was it a tourbus kind of thing? I wonder if it used to be in Kansas.. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

Notice also that the "tags" are on the front plate. They are supposed to be on the back plate not the front. But then again, I do run a Puerto Rico front plate on mine! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

The bus was last driven in 1991 and I know the previous owner drove it in California and Nevada. I suspect the black plate comes from these travels.
The Topeka Tours came from an idea to use the '61 and '60 Westfalia they had at the time to tour people around locally. The idea never got off the ground..... Nothing to do with Kansas other then the name.
Haven't talked to the second owner for more details yet but hope to do so soon.... |
