i check for oil leak spots to make sure he won't have to "go" when we're rolling...

i also turn down the radio and talk to him when we hit tougher sections of roadway (stop and go, big hills, rain etc.)

I always give em a pat on the dash and mumble sweet nothings when they done me good, like a 4hr highway ride without missing a beat, or in my filthy beast ( 82 f250 ) when it pulls that stump out of the yard Laughing

Gave the girls all names, talk to them while working on them or driving them. praise them when they start up, and thank them again when I get to where I am going.

Funny, I never turn on my lights while driving unless I can see there are no other cars on the road. If it's dusk, I will pull over and stop to turn my headlights on. Strange but true.

I feel better knowing that other people pat the dash while talking to the car. Sometimes on long trips if something with the car ain't quite right I'll pat the dash and offer words of encouragedment like,"Come on baby you can do it. Your doing a fine job". It's always been busses and type3s for me. Don't know what I'd pat if I had a bug.

When working on the car I ussually try to sweet talk it. If that doesn't work I berate it with obscenities and otherwise verbally abuse it until it submits to my will. If I ever revert back to sweet talking from swaring it is a sure sign the car has broken my will and I'm letting it know I'll be its submissive little bitch if it will work with me.

The weird and truly superstitious thing about this is I'm not just talking to myself. I'm talking to the car and I believe it is listening to me and that I must communicate with it or it won't cooperate with me.

In an automotive class I was working on a car and talking to it. I heard another student say to the instructor,"He's loosing it".
The instructor replied,"Naw, he knows what he's doing. He'll get it".
I just had to laugh. Of course I got it.

For some reason when I release the E brake I always push the button with my thumb a few extra times after the handle is down. Like how some people play with a ballpoint pen.

Don't know why, the handle isn't going to go down any farther.

I realized I always muttered "c'mon baby, c'mon baby" when the engine was trying to catch on cold days. but outside of that, I cant think of anything.

More of a myth than superstition, the somewhat common thought that VWs are maintenace free vehicles, "you can drive 'em forever without worries!" Rolling Eyes

I do more praising it when talking to other people about how good it's been to me than actually talking to it. The few times I actually talk to it is when trying to make it do some extraordinary things, "c'mon baby, you can do it!" When re-installing the motor, which starts with the bucking motion while pushing it in and ends up with a climatic feeling of it engaging the tranny "all the way!" Anxious

Other than that could be the occasional cussing when it lets me down... quickly followed by the realization that had I paid more attention to its needs maintenance wise, I would not be in that situation to begin with. Sad
