I don't have an oval but this is just weird to me. Some guy in Singapore is selling an Abbath muffler for $1500. Are they really worth that much? Sounds kind of like a huge markup for a muffler. Oh well just my thoughts.

They haven''t made them in 40 years. So it's not like you can go down to the local shop and buy a new one.

I guess that is why I don't have an oval. I would have to live in it and feast on the seats because I wouldn't be able to affrod anything else. If that is what an Abbath goes for than so be it.

Abarth was a tuning company back in the 50s & 60s. They were extremely popular with the Porsche crowd. Thought repro's are available, nothing beats the fit & sound of a true Abarth especially when teamed with a period performance motor such as a Denzel, Okrassa or Judson. Here's a peek of my 1956 convertible sporting an original Abarth muffler.

Ovals can be easily bought cheap and you're not required to buy $$ rare accessories for it.

PostPosted: Wed Jun 22, 2005 5:51 am    Post subject: Flat Four Arbarth Reply with quote

I purchased a Flat Four repro arbarth which is the cheapest repro available. The welds are not that great but it looks good from the rear. I had to take it off my Ghia cabrio because it was just too loud especially with the Judson and no roof to cut the sound.

I installed this on my Okrasa and it scares the Honda's with there fart cans. And I had to do some creative bends to get it to fit the stroker motor. My only complaint is that it seems a lot louder than other arbarths I have heard. That and it is a tight fit under the apron of the split.

The stainless repro looks real nice. Its a good deal more expensive but seems better quality and is stainless. I would love to hear a sound clip to compare the sounds of the two.

Sorry I was calling it Abbath instead of Abarth. I have never heard of this product and that is how the Singapore guy in the classifieds spelled it. Just for the record folks.

Wait someone above me put Arbarth. Which is it Abarth or Arbarth? I'm just curious. Nothing to do at work at the moment....

If you just sit down and ponder the fittings.
This is how it works. There is a metal bracket about 6" long that has a couple twists in it and some screw holes. Slide the metal bracket under the outermost coil on the bottom right.
The end of the bracket holds the first or second loop in the copper coil on the upper left. Hold the cooler as if you were in back of the engine looking out the rear deck lid. The small 1/2" hold down screws into the end and holds the coil to the bracket at the end. The other 1/2" bracket holds the coil on 6to the bracket on the bottom right. The bolt hold on the bottom of the bracket holds the entire assembly to the case. It has a hole on the case seam. Bend the bracket to get the coil centered in the fan.
As the copper coil is routed over the top of the shround use the metal/rubber bracket with two small screws to hold down the coil. The rubber gromments on the copper coil should sit under this bracket.

The routing of the oil line should be obvious but to clarify it drains into the distributer hold down bracket. You need to replace your with the drain plug you should have. The input banjo fitting goes over the alloy oil pressure extender. That is the 3" piece that the oil sensor screws into the end the banjo fitting fits over the base. Don't forget seals?

If you need pictures I can show one on my split.
