Update.
Joe at Chirco promised me he would issue a credit for the parts he never shipped. See post on April 25th for details.
I have called and emailed for 2 weeks. Each time he says he's done the credit. No credit ever issued. I had to call the credit card company to dispute the charge.
The credit card company said he had violated his vendor agreement with Mastercard to charge my card without shipping the parts.
Avoid this guy. |

My experience with Chirco has been very positive. Joe, and the rest, are very helpful, friendly, and willing to help out at the drop of a hat. They do get rather busy though - when calling I've had to hold on the phone for up to 5 or 10 minutes. Thats just part of life tho. _________________ Ryan

Just recently purchased a 1600 long block from them and as usual, got the best price possible, great service from Frank and Don, and it runs excellent. This is not the first engine I have purchased from them and it won't be the last. I have installed them in my customers cars and they are very happy with the quality. Keep up the excellent work. _________________ If you argue with an idiot for more than 5 minutes, who's the real idiot?

I would like to add another post here....
I began searching high and low for 40hp tin for my 62 beetle (converting from stale air 62 engine to a 65 fresh air 1200). I stopped by and asked Joe if he knew of anyone who had some. He himself has some - and was willing to pull it off of an engine in his own garage - and tank wash them. I got all the tin, lower, and front, plus the heater boxes AND a muffler for a great price. Joe went out of his way to help me out - and I remember stuff like that. _________________ Ryan

I orderd parts from them 8 days ago. I E-MAILED them 2 times and they won't even let me know if the parts have been shipped. I won't order from then again. You guys that live in the Phoenix area shouldn't have a problem, you can just go to the store. I live 12 hours away. |

Just wanted to chime in here. I just purchased a new case, heads, cam and crank from Chirco and the service has been great. Very quick to answer emails and items arrived packaged niclely. Heads and case are perfect. I will continue to use them fom now on. The website also has great tech artcles and how-tos. _________________ 1971 Westy

Ordered parts 5/23/10. Nothing as of yet. Called last week and was told the parts were being made. Bilstein is making shocks just for me? How nice. Today is 6/16/10. Only communication was my 1 phone call. If for any reason I made one of my customers wait this long, I'd at least contact them to let them know. I will post once I receive the merchandise. _________________ '66 13 window camper

I've been doing business with Joe Chirco for almost 23 years. They have built a number of engines for me over the years, and all have been reliable. The 1641 I have in my 61 Bus was done back in 1996, and is still going strong. Joe and Bob are always helpful, and Joe will go out of his way to get an odd part I might need that he might not carry in stock. I highly recommend them. _________________ 61 Bus, 71 Bus, 76 Beetle, 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth, 47 Plymouth Business Coupe, 58 BMW Isetta 300 |

I recently ordered a 7 piece fiberglass baja kit from them. The kit itself was 460.95 and I had ordered an engine cage and some other stuff with this order. The total came to 569.73. I was shocked when the shipping was added onto the price. Almost 850$. $300 for shipping! It was coming freight to wisconsin and when it finally arrived it showed up in a little mini van and it was EASILY picked up with 2 people. The weight on chirco was like 450 lbs. It said "These ship dimensional weight." Shipping is bull****. _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

I'm sure Chirco doesn't set the freight charges. Recently, all of the major carriers have started treating larger items like heavy items and charging out the ass. It cost me nearly $80 to get a Mercedes vacuum formed hard plastic dash cap UPS'd to me because of the size of the box. It actually weighed less than 10 lbs, box included.
This isn't a vendor issue, and the vendor shouldn't be slammed for it. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Lightweight but bulky items have a minimum weight charge based on size and cubic feet.
IMHO maybe you should have ordered it from a more local shop then picked it up yourself. _________________ Gary

Happy with the parts that fit, unhappy that I had to send back an exhaust system that did not fit, very unhappy that they charged me a 15% restocking fee, and pretty much not happy with the fact that I had to call three times over two weeks before my money was refunded.
I was happy with the service and technical help before I had to make a return. I guess as long as your are spending money you are a good customer. Fortunately Chirco's is not the only VW parts supplier out there. |
