|
|
I would like to replace the Air Intake Elbow Boot on my bus, just as preventive maintenance as it is beginning to seem hardened with age. This is the piece that runs between the air flow meter and the throttle body.
None of the usual vendors seem to have this part available. Any suggestions?? _________________ 1978 7-Passenger, 37K miles

Hey Bob is it still hot in Chicago? Are those twins out of energy yet?
I have seen them on e-bay (search in the "parts for funky vehicles section" using VW bus as the key words) recently. Claimed to be NOS, but some people stretch the truth. |

Hey Randy! Sunday was like a blast furnace, but tomorrow we will be lucky ti hit 74 degrees. Welcome to Chicago in the Summer! Unfortunately, no similar downturn in the twins' energy has been observed.
You were right, the boots are being sold on ebay, although in lots of 10 only: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...RK:MEWA:IT
I wrote the seller for more information. Maybe a group buy is in order-- unless you want a really good deal on 9 of them?

I haven't figured out this seller's trip. I bought something and it took a month to get here as he didn't have it when it went up for sale.
Finally it came, no instruction, no packaging, no nothing. They charged me $4 to send a $3 item and just put it in an envelop with a stamp on it.
I called them up, complained, and got all my money back for the shipping. They were jerks though.
They are sort of a bunch of flakes in my opinion. |

Didn't you see the revised ebay FAQ? NOS has been redefined to "Nasty Old Sh*t". |

The s-boots that vendor is sell has no vw logo or part number on them. I'm still trying to figure out where they came from. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

That's interesting except that's just them. Their German counterpart is just a German eBay seller. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Yep. I don't know whether there is something of a language barrier here, or whether they are intentionally being disingenuous, but I don't exactly have a warm fuzzy feeling about buying from them. It would be great to find a quality version of this part, but I'm not sure this is it, especially in lots of 10! _________________ 1978 7-Passenger, 37K miles

If you get 10, I'd like 2 please. I'm nearby in Bloomington Indiana. |

I know someone who bought one. Unfortunately he lives in Canada and shipped it to his aunt in the us to save shipping but he's going to send me a photo of it. More to come... _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

I'd think that if someone was re-popping a quality hose, they wouldn't have to sell on eBay in lots of 10 for $30/each. They could sell them one at a time for much more. Or sell them to the vendors we all know and love, who could then make good money selling them to us. _________________ -Chuck

Richard I would love to get your thoughts on this part before I buy, so please do let me know as soon as you find out anything.
If the part is of decent quality I will buy 10 if I have to. IMO this is a heat/age wear item in the FI system so it would be good to have a fresh part and a spare. VWBusrepairman, thanks for your offer to buy two. If anybody else would buy one from me (at my cost, of course) please post here or PM. I want two also, so there would be six available. _________________ 1978 7-Passenger, 37K miles

I hope. |

Let me know when these arrive and we can make arrangements. I once had an air boot in such bad shape, I could change the idle by moving the air box...vacuum leaks are a pain sometimes.
Anyone know how to mount an air box on a vehicle that wasn't originally injected? Guess the brain box would need a place to mount as well. Hmmm. I think a dune buggy with a late bus drive train would be nice. |

If you wind up buying a lot of 10, you can put me down for one as I'd like to have a spare for the day the current boot in my bus gives up the ghost. _________________ 1979 Westy

OK guys, thanks for the responses, I think there is a enough interest that I am comfortable ordering 10 if the product checks out at all. Hopefully Richard will be able to look over a picture soon. I will not hold him responsible for anything , but his input will be helpful. _________________ 1978 7-Passenger, 37K miles
