I'm replacing the lower sills on my bus and I 'm wondering what everyone's opinions are on something.
I have always made do cutting metal with a grinder and cutting blade. I am just wondering if a sawzall works better? Are they better for following lines and getting in small places?
Is it worth investing in one?
Do blades wear out as fast as cutting disks?
thanks in advance.

it's a rough call,.. i've used both, but a sawzall is faster and doesn't heat the metal up as fast, but you have to be carefull and let the blade do the work, you can't force it.
i'm on my 2nd sawzall,i wore out my old one.

Another way to get a nice straight line if not cutting deep is with a circular saw. Pop on a metal cutting blade(like a grinder disk). People use them for roof replacement and long panel cuts. You can set the depth easily. Run a piece of tape and follow the lines.

Every shop needs a sawzall, it will pay for itself, wether you do the sills with it or not.

Agreed. And make sure you buy some the short blades, while you are buying the sawzall. You figure out why I say this quick enough.

Sawzall always first if you have enough support from surrounding braces. If you are out in the middle of a panel with no support, then gringer or shear. As said before, Sawzall used properly will not heat the metal like grind does.

Really need sawzall, angle grinder and air saw. Air saw good for fine work, cutting out for new body panels.

A nibbler is nice to have too. I use all of the above and a nibbler depending on the cut.
