Unfortunately the Rustbusting a Westfalia camper link seems to be dead.
I was really looking forward to reading that one.

Vendors to avoid:
GEX rebuilds
|
Avoid GEX like the SARS-CoV-2!
Let me double-down on this. My regular mechanic made the mistake of engaging them for a head-job that became a rebuild due to labor costs for an 1.9L H4 wasserboxer. Fortunately, I bought the rebuilder's parts and labor "insurance," or so I thought. The motor that came back had the distributor shaft in backwards and one cylinder was dead (low compression). They fought my mechanic tooth-and-nail to not stand behind their shoddy work. Finally, they relented, sent a pickup truck out from AR, hauled it back, rebuilt it, and hauled it back. And then they cancelled and refunded the insurance without telling me, so now I'm stuck with an engine that has no warranty and questionable/no support!
Peninsula Automotive in the SF Bay Area also used to use them long ago too, but stopped because of unspecified issues.
Expensive lesson learned. Get yourself a GoWesty or similar crate motor instead of parts spray-and-pray hoping to make a usable motor.
FYI: In many states, Lemon Law doctrine applies to more than just new and used cars from dealers. (IANAL but I subscribe to a Lemon Law lawyer on the Youtubes.) _________________ '85.5 Vanagon Campmobile Deluxe (California emissions)

i think the faq is missing some important literature, like this manual for the digijet (83-85) https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=627901
(which also contains a link to the pro-training manual) _________________ 84 Vanagon Westy, 1.9L, California raised but defected to Canada. |

You should consider listing The Bug House in Virginia Beach. They've been around since 1983 and always serviced my van parts needs when I lived in that area. You can call and order from them. Pretty awesome guys.

Just saw this, the awning he made for us survived Hurricane Matthew!

The following link is not VW specific but it does allow the user to find out the expected MPG for any make and model from 1984 to the present. The only VW model that this site covers that is also covered by The Samba is the Vanagon.
