Okay my van runs smooth now but I cant start it with out push starting it. I have a 1980 manual 2.0 Vanagon and the starter cranks long and strong but it just doesn’t seem to want to turn over. It will turn over just fine after a little push I can not figure this one out?

First thing I would do is go check all your connections, grounds starter connections, all FI connections. You had the whole engine out not long ago, so something could have came loose.

matt,

So when you go to start it with the key it will turn over nice, fast, and strong? Does this have anything to do with your recent distributor problem?

And the flap in your AFM is swinging freely?

I am with mightyart here, I like a bad connection at the starter or one of the grounds. Might be time to whip out that contact cleaner for all of the elctrical connections.

I know nothing about a idle stabilizer, but check it out as per your Bentley.

I assume that you are getting good spark, adequate fuel pressure (26 psi), and adequate voltage going to the FI?

For the life of me I cannot figure out why it will push start but not start off the starter.
