had new uniroyal laredo when I bought it, 6 ply, anyone think I would see improvement if I switch to vanco's ? |
"Depends." For the money the 14 inchers are not going to let you down.
My method for selecting is to go to the manufacturers website and look what is available. You can get one of the Vancos in some sizes in a lower load or ply rating. Vanco 8s are 8 ply rated, but the Vanco Contact is rated a bit less.
If your 6 plys held up well, the Vancos will do better for the same rating, I think.
These days it is getting harder and harder to get good tires in smaller diameters. So maybe it is time for bigger wheels????? Hee, hee. My 16's are going one SOON! _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

See all the little lines on these Nokian snow tires, that's what the sipes are. All the edges are supposed to provide grip on slippery surfaces.
Tires that don't have a lot of cross cuts, such as Agilis:
will be worse on snow and ice, I guess because the design completely traps the snow or ice, there's no void for it to move into, and no edges to bite into the surface and create friction. |

You are probably right, I am running the Agilis tires this winter and they are utterly useless on snow and ice. I used to run the Michelin LTX's on my 87 Westy and they did much better. I would not recommend the Agilis to anyone who may have to use them in the snow. |

Confession; I thought you guys were being tire snobs, "You need LT tires, or 8 ply monster side wall tires". I bought a parts Westy a few weeks ago, it had Light Truck tires on it. I swapped them onto my Westy. I kick myself for buying cheap tires. These Vans were made to roll on some real rubber. I promise anybody tire shopping, you will not regret getting some stiff tires that fit the van. |
thats what you get for thinking. _________________ 84 Westfalia (Goldie)
