1st pic - Plug Thing - appears to be brake light switch
3rd pic - tube piece from rear bumper/cage assembly
4th pic - brake fluid reservoir

Not certain on other pics - don't have car available to look at...

That 2 prong switch looks like your brake light switch. the bottle is your brake fluid resivior, that bar looks like a remnant of where a rear engine cage was and that tube by the hood hinge is for your windshield defroster. although i don't know why it has that small port on it.

I almost forgot, the suspension looks fairly stock to me.i believe that if the front end was lifted you can see weld marks in the center of the beam where it was cut and turned. the rear could have been adjusted by turning the spring plates but with the engine out Vw's tend to sit pretty high so it's probably stock.

That's the brake light switch on the master cylinder

Usually you can tell if the spring plates in the rear are much closer to the bottom stops than the top (with the engine installed), and if the front bump stops have been removed. Also if the front beam has been cut and turned or torsion adjusters added.

That's a rear bumper mount, either for a cage or double tube bumper. There should be one on each side to install the bumper, if you choose to go that route.

That's the master brake cylinder reservior. Those hoses should be connected to the top of the master cylinder.

Not quite sure, but it looks like it's for auxillary heat, such as a gas heater. What year is it? Maybe they are supposed to go to the center defrost (mine doesn't have one, it's too old, so not familiar with it).

Its a 66,67 or 68. Swing axle with balljoint. Just noticed 4 lug. I'll say late 67-68.

In that last picture with the smaller plugged vent hose is on later model cars.

There are "defrost" vents in the middle made of plastic in addition to the ones on the outside edges. There would have been some plastic hoses that ran from that plugged spot to the middle vents.

Body lift is not hard, simply unbolt the body, jack it up and slide the pieces into place and then lower it down and bolt it up. If you have a few floor jacks and several peices of 2x4`s it makes it really easy. What sucks though is that its hard to find a quality body lift kit.

Thanks for the replys guys. Im going to pick up a repair manual this weekend witch should answer most of my random questions.
As for the year its a 66' thats whats on the title that I got at least.

Inside the car I found some extra bolts and two of those spacers, like the one I pointed out in the pic above. Is their any way to tell who manufactured the body lift? I looked on all the stuff I could see and dident see any markings. Im just wondering where those extra bolts and spacers go. Could anyone post a link that sells similar body lift kits? im sure they all install the same.

How meny gallons does the stock gas tank hold?

Remove the backseat of the car. Under it on the pan there will be a vin #. Check that vin (and the one on your title)against the samba's vin number decoder. 66 should have 5 lug wheels. Maybe someone replaced the drums, brakes, wheels etc with later models. There is also a chance that someone replaced the quarter with a later one with the fuel door in the front quarter. I would suspect however that the year on your title is a mistake.

Its not a big deal, but when you go to get parts they wont be right. I also think that the dual reservoir master cyclinder (two hoses) was later than 66 also.

Oh crap, I forgot to mention Your stock seats will not fit anymore and you have to cut a oval shape hole into the firewall and move the steering shaft slightly. I am using a urethaen donut so the angle was ok. I had no problems with the tunnel. The kit I used had all the pieces you need to support the whole body.

The front seats or the back?

I plan on running aftermarket buckets so its probly not a big deal.
