I've replaced all 4 of my brake with discs, but I cheeped out and got a deal on rears without an ebrake cable. I want to make my 69 street legal and all, and I need some Ideas of how to do that.
The code says I need to have a seperate brake system that will work if my other one fails at any place other than the caliper/rotor area. and it has to be held in place mechanically.

the park lock thing doesn't cut it legally because it requires the main brakes to work first.

Would turning brakes count if I were to make some sort of hook on them to lock them up? (i.e. bungie cords or something) the turning brakes would still work on the rears even if the master cylinder went out right?

Has anyone modified their calipers with a cheepo e brake option?

I'm not sure how your system is plumbed, but most hydraulic steering brakes use the same lines as the main brake system, so while they might act as an e-brake, good luck getting it by the inspector. If that would pass, a simple dual-circuit master cylinder should (which I doubt).

I'm not sure how cali does things. Mass and others you sit in the car for the inspection. Maybe you could install a park lock. Go to the station and push the park lock and pull up the ebrake handle for the effect?

turning brakes will not work. you need hydraulic and manual (cable) brakes. time to un-cheepen and step up to e-brake rear calipers if you plan on staying legal

Might be a bit hard to deploy that as an emergency stop if your brakes fail...

I am going to have to agree with Brad on this one (dammit). One of the only things that they are going to be happy with is a cable operated e-brake.

Are there disk brake kits that come with an e-brake cable set up?
