Hello all,
Im gonna do an IRS conversion from a bay window on my 66 bus.
I knowdest creative engineering doesn't make the kits anymore but i do found out autocraft has these brackets for the bay window swing arms:
Does anyone welded these in an send me a picture where they are placed exactly? I cant find any information or pics welded in a bus.
Thanks in advance! _________________ '66 vw splitbus project:

These guys make a better option than the old Creative ones, less to cut and uses Bay arms. _________________ TP in the Pack (I am a cyclist)

Im sure it also a good option but i am from europe so shipping costs and import duty's are really expensive.. the autocraft brackets are available for 65€ here in Belgium _________________ '66 vw splitbus project:

I would not eyeball it where to weld them from a picture.
Why not buy the bolt on brackets, that way you can adjust everything better.

I did the air ride kit from CE awhile back. I’m now thinking of somehow modifying to go back to a static drop. Anyway been researching how to do with current chassis legs in place.
Chassis legs looks to be available from Limebug-search chassis legs if you go that route.
Go to CE web page and download or look thru the pages on irs conversion .
I’m ASSUMING the CE chassis legs work with the 68-70 arms as described by CE or using their “arms”. The weld in legs style placement (next to the existing stock horns) raises the question of moving the stub housing further from transmission (probably require the longer cv axle. Sorry about the rambling but I might have just understood my own situation.
Also there are 2 separate part numbers and sizes for the torsion bars.
There are other options for me but it cost a lot more work and $$$,£££,€€€.
Good luck and nice job on your 66 Split. |

I kind of came to that conclusion (just by the creative irs catalog). The wagenwest looks to go over the original frame horns. Those weld in ones probably need the correct arms- there are 2 different lengths used in the bay I believe and then need to match the cv axle length (also 2 different lengths) used on the bay.
Again to the OP look up the creative catalog on IRS. |
