Ghia, Beetle? Highway or city driving? How much of a load are you going to carry? Too many variables. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Oh, okay, it's in a Bug. What was so hard about that? You should be closer to 28- 30 if the bug is all stock and up to date on maintenance. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

If I could keep my foot out of it on the highway on a long trip (around 70mph) I could get 30-33 mpg. This was in my '71 Beetle, 1600 dual-port, stock except for exhaust _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.

Not if he's doing a lot of hill climbing, and California has a lot of hills in many areas. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Hey all;
It's funny you mention hills in Cali. I was told when i bought the car that they had the motor built by a local shop here {now gone} with a mild cam just for {the grade} which is highway 101's big hill climb over to the next city. The girl who used to own it worked over "the grade" and said she would just fly up it with no problem every day. I see cars off to the side overheated all the time there. |

So, then it is not a "Stock 1600". I'd say you are doing just fine if you're running a mild cam and climbing all those hills. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I get about 25 to 29 in my mostly stock 1600 dp Ghia, mostly highway at speeds average 60-65. Speedometer says 65-70, but I think it is off by about 5 mph. _________________ 1971 Ghia Hardtop

I recently took a long trip in my 73 ghia and got 31.5mpg driving 70-75mph. This is with a stock 1600 that's never had a rebuild. _________________ 20‰

It's not a 1600... but I was pleasantly surprised two weeks ago to get 24.7 MPG with my 2332cc in a Ghia vert. That was over the course of two weeks on my daily 30 mile round trip to work. Sure beats the 15 MPG my Jeep gets. _________________ Rich
