|
|
I have been thinking for a while of sellng my '90 Mexican Beetle and replacing it with a Notchback or Fastback. Neither of those has a fold down rear seat. I was wondering if it is possible to install a rear seat from a Squareback into a Notch or Fast as that folds down. Thanks |

Also you would need to cut out the bracing behind the seat to make it usable space.

you would have to make a custom back seat rest. The way the seat rest sits in the back it will not work. You could easily do this if you are a welder and can sow the seat cover up to match the new shape. Mounting the hinges would be easy.
Who cares why? I like to hear people are trying new things with their cars. Even if you want to do it just to do it, I say go for it. |

to carry longer ites you would also have to remove the section behind the rear seat I believe it is a structual support roof racks may handle that job and be cheaper in the long run _________________ FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER FUCK CANCER!!

If I end up selling my Bug and getting a Notch or Fastback it might be something I would try. Roofracks are OK but not always practical. I would like a Bus but I have had one and have not had a type 3 so I'd like something differnent. And a Squareback is a station wagon, and while I like them, I am just not a station wagon kinda dude |

get over it... a square is the most useful air-cooled VW out there, next to a bus (of course).... _________________ póg mo thóin

I don't care what VW says-the one on the left is NOT a station wagon, the one on the right IS. VW just called the Microbus a staion wagon to avoid import tarriffs. A Squareback-maybe when I need to haul a playpen around back there, maybe when I'm fifty. Seriously though I do like the Squarebacks, I looked at a '67 last year that was very clean, very OG, and very low mileage, for $7K. But the type 3 STATION WAGON is my personal least favorite Type 3, albiet the most useful (not as useflu as a 411/412 wagon though!). If I found one ultra clean and cheap, maybe, until then I'll stick with a Type 3 not designed for a suburban housewife. |

Someone post that one ad about the Squareback, you know, the one where they stuffed all that camping equipment and that bicycle in the cargo area! That vintage one! I wonder how many Mary Kay make-up bags a suburban hauswife can fit in that little two-door... nevermind that suburban housewives normally have 3 kids. That's definately what a Bus is for.

Actually it was just a marketing ploy. There were no excessive tariffs on imported commercial vehicles until the early 1970s. The "passenger" vehicles were never classified as commericial vehicles anyway.

Based on the Squareback brochures I own, the Squareback seems to be aimed more at the small business person who needed to haul samples or make deliveries but also wanted some hauling capacity to take the family out on picnics/to the lake/etc. on weekends. Basically someone who was a working person but wanted a small car that got good gas mileage.
Think of it as a small Bus. _________________ How to Post Photos

Sorry guys-I was really only kidding about those anti Squareback comments! Dont worry my girlfriend does not share my sense of "humor" either. While the Square really is my last Type 3 choice, that is just my opinion, and I would gladly own a clean one. Any air cooled VW is awesome by me. |
