We have a 1600 with an alternator with an external regulator. Unless we shut off the battery switch to disconnect, the battery will be dead dead overnight.

There are diodes to prevent this but not sure how that works. The buggy had a generator and this problem showed up after changing over to the alternator.

Do we look for a different regulator or?

Mmmm.... Regulator?......... ,

What type of alternator do you have?.... IS it a AL 78 or AL 82....

AL 78 requires a regulator, BUT not the regulator used with a generator, it had to be a regulator designed for the alternator...

AL82 alternator does not require a regulator....

Need to know more about your conversion to alternator...

Here is the alternator and external regulator. It was wired up with the indicator light and it charged fine. Problem was the battery draining totally after engine was shut off and left overnight.
