A company that coachbuilt crewcabs from single cabs back before VW made the crew cab.

The pic that Ev put up looks like a painting vs a real pic. So the artist might have taken a few liberties with it.
So, they had both suicide and non , but a painting? are you sure? the artist embelished this AND put rust and corrosion in the wheelwell/dogleg? Confused

probably an airbrushed photo, back when they did that alot and very well. it looks like a little dirt down on the rockers to me, which would be "natural" for a hard working truck

I had thought the same, but I have seen a few artist that do paintings like this. What made me think it was a painting was that all the shadows are correct except for the light (or maybe a mirror) on the building. The shadow is not cast right.

I'm thinking it's a colorized black-and-white photo.

That's what it is. I took a class in school(many years ago), that taught us how to colorize old black and white prints and the picture of the blue Binz is how they looked when finished. Sort of cartoonish or a painting.

That blue truck appears to be Swedish. Even if the writing on the door did not give it away, the configuration would. It's a LHD, which all Swedish cars were. But in Sweden, at the time, they drove on the left side of the road with LHD cars. That would explain why the rear door is on the driver's side. In American Binzes, it's on the passenger side. I don't know if Swedish single cabs have both the steering wheel and the treasure chest door on the left, but probably, and it probably makes them extremely rare.

Not only appears to be Swedish.. I the text on the door says Liedström byggnads(Constructing) AB Örebro. Örebro is a Swedish town. Wink It also have the old type of licenceplates used up to the 60's.

You can see more pics of that red barndoor "binz" on my site at the bottom of the binz registry.

http://dropgates.com/binz/binzegistry.html

and just to clarify somewhat; the amount of barndoor binz's made are unknown. There could have been hundreds made, there could have been 5 made. the only mentions of them are the one in the literature which technically could be a drawing, and one shown in a black and white binz factory photo w/tilt. To my knowledge there are zero known survivors.

I like how they kept the treasure chest area reachable from the outside - I wish VW had used that option as well - it would be a lot easier than going under the back seat all the time...Vanagons had it as well...

Seems like there's been a lot of sightings since the last post, all across the globe. The barndoor Binz must get around a lot for a vehicle that's managed to escape being photographed for so long.

Kind of like the Easter Bunny, Sasquatch, and the Loch Ness Monster.

A Swedish "Binz" is found and now saved.

It is a swedish coachbuilt by "Forsell&Lindkvist" from Uppsala.

I recall that the guy who took those photos has been bugging the owner to sell it for a long time. From reading the Binz Doublecab thread in the split bus forum. If it really has been saved, that's great news. The one I'm really dying to see get off the ground is the one Gerson stated he was planning to build, a one-off Barndoor Binz reproduction.
