How did this distributor work out for those that bought it? With our cold snap near Chicago, I think I'll have to put the stock carb on and will need a vacuum distributor and this one seems like it would be a great deal.

I tried to order one to see what it looked like... I was told they were out of stock and didn't know when they'd get any more.
Just buy the brand new Mexican one from CB for $99. _________________ Glenn

Sounds like a damn good deal for a Genuine Bosch. Showing In-Stock in my zip code for $61.00. |

Place the order... you'll get a email a day or two later telling you they can't get one.
That's what happened to me.
Maybe they got some in, but most people don't send a core in.
BTW... i just bought a nice used German 034 for $21. _________________ Glenn

Glenn I took your advice and ordered the one from CB, they're running behind on shipping but that's OK since I haven't even shipped my carb to Richard yet.
Here's my question, my engine is an AK which according to many sources calls for 5 degrees ATDC, I assume this is with a dual vacuum. With the SVDA do you set your timing to a max of 30-32 at 3000 rpm and see what you get at idle? It seems that the SVDA's are timed at 7.5 BTDC which matches my setting with my current 009 (approximately).
Thanks -

Your timing depends on what distributor you're running, not your engine code. Here's how I set my SVDA
Adjust Idle
Set Idle Timing to 7.5BTDC
Set Max Advance at 30deg at around 3000rpm
Re-adjust Idle |

What he said but when you are reving it up to 3000-3500 to set the max centrifical advance (with no more vacuum advance), you want to make sure that the vacuum hose is off the vacuum can and left unplugged. After you get it set, then re-attach the hose. |

Actually, the instructions that came with my SVDA (from aircooled.net) said to remove the vacuum hose from the vacuum can and plug it when setting the maximum advance (28-30 degrees). When you reattach the vacuum hose you will probably see around 40 degrees of advance. |

Well I stand corrected then.
They (aircooled) seem to have the best installation instructions of the bunch. That would also be the one I would buy also. I think it is better made than the others. Thansk for the correction, I will remember that. |
