will someone be sure i'm doing this right...
*put shaft in with groove perpendicular to case split
*off-set towards pully
*lowered crank in at TDC
*merged gears in the same positions
this is as close as I could get it. looking at the groove, it seems a little off. To get the groove to be straight up and down (perpendicular to split) the degree pully is at 30*..
Honestly it looks off to me and it is as close as I can get it. |

You just put it where it makes things fit best. If that does not let you orient your wires and vacuum can (if you have a vacuum equipped distributor) the way you want to, then you just reposition it so that you can. |

does it matter how the shaft gear and the crank distributor gear mate? |

If you mean orientation, not really. They must mesh correctly, in other words, the drive gear must sit all the way down in the bore, so that it sits right on top of the two washers that are under it - other than that orientation means nothing here. |

I usually drop the drive in and then bolt the dristirbutor in. Then i set the crank up to TDC on #1 and finally the cam. If you don't like the way the distributor is in... you can easily change it. _________________ Glenn

I forgot to mention that I have a degree wheel that I machined the opening a bit larger so it's easy on/off. That ensures I have the crank at TDC. _________________ Glenn
