So I've been getting into vintage tractors lately, and was wondering about the VW end of the spectrum.
I'm aware of the vw industrial motor powered Bungartz T8 and the Porsche aircooled diesel tractors, but are there any others?
I could swear up and down that a VW powered tractor I saw at a show 2 or 3 years ago was not a Bungartz. I think the old fella said it was produced by VW itself, but can't quite recall. Any truth to this?
Alrighty, any feedback would be appreciated-
thanks yall- |

Deutz is another German company that made aircooled tractors. In the late 80's Allis Chalmers was bought out by Deutz and the lineup was switched to mainly aircooled. A lot of the Allis liking people bought them even though they were green instead of orange, but generally they didn't sell so well. They also got extremly hot when doing heavy work. Eventually the production was ceased and Allis was in financial trouble again and Merged with another company to become Agco-Allis in 91.....from then on it was water pumpers.

Yeah, I've dug up a few- not quite ready to buy yet though. I'm just trying to get all the info of what would be available in the vw/porsche category. I like being an informed consumer-
Our school just got an old vintage 1920's tractor that I've been working on lately to get it back up to par. It's just a showpeice for the college, like the draft horses or the blacksmith shop, but that little orange tractor rented out a soft spot in me. Now I'm getting obsessed with old tractors...
(that WWII tractor in the link was fuckin rad...) |

I like vintage tractors, it's cool how something so utilitarian can be so beautiful. Those things seem to last forever too. Quite a difference from our current disposable society.... |

My great grandfather always had Ford tractors. I bet he could've done the farmwork alot faster if he'd had a Porsche. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Sooooo.... anyone? I'd figure that at least one person on here was a tractor freak. Have any of you Bungartz owners heard of any other vw powered models beyond the bungartz?
Thanks yall- |

Hey Pinky. I've been looking into getting one for awhile now. Bungartz are the only ones that I've seen that used the VW engine. Porsche Traktors are totally different. Later model Bungartz are the way to go. They employ 3 point hitches, hydraulics and PTO. You can get one a lot cheaper than a new Kubota though. Hell 8N's are going for 3500 plus now days because they are collectable. _________________ http://www.sundial-camper.com |

Sweet- I appreciate it Sundial.
Porsche tractor would just be for bragging rights if I end up going that route. Actually, any vintage tractor I get will just be a collector peice that will see little if any work beyond my own personal amusement. (we have a pair of 80's John Deere on family land outside Charlotte)
I thought that only the T8 came with a vw motor... That's the main reason I'd be interested in a Bungartz; otherwise I'd swing for a vintage McCormick or something. Wasn't this model only available in the mid-late 60's? What would be considered "late model" within the span of the vw industrial motor powered tractors? I've been having trouble finding much information on them.
Have you seen any with a loader? Was there an extended wide track available? Anywhere that I could veiw one if so?
I'm just trying to figure out what all is available, and the Bungartz has piqued my interest-
Thanks a million! |

Just sent you a PM
Yes, that has been the one decent site I've found, but the scattered german has thrown me off and internet translators leave something to be desired. My partner speaks it, but he's in India right now. I appreciate the help! |
