Any chance someone has one of the "arms" lying around that you could throw on a flatbed scanner along with a ruler, and upload a pic so those of us that need a template to make that piece have something to go by?
I also purchased a new WW valve, but no arm...
BTW - the valve I got has one brass tube and one plastic tube... can they still be pulled out and switched?
Thanks! _________________ 61 DD Panel |

you could buy an original for much less than the effort it would take to reproduce one. _________________ .

I looked for an original arm "forever" and couldn't find one. Couldn't find any repros either. I finally had to buy an entire bus and haul it 550 miles to get one. Thank goodness the rest of the parts on the bus covered all my costs. _________________ -- Jeff--happyhippo

I once saw a complete crap petcock on the samba for $5, with an arm... so I bought it.
Then it went on a bus (I think someone talked me out of it).
I dunno why, but they are often missing. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

If you are going to knock these arms off, let me know as I'd be interested in one if it's not too expensive. _________________ Jerry

So, to make the new WW valve operate smoothly (the new valve i got is so stiff its fairly hard to turn with a wrench on it), do you just take off the rubber boot, and sand down that rubber gasket with the four holes to make it a little thinner? maybe some grease in there? _________________ 61 DD Panel |

DaveM recommends a bit of graphite grease.
If you just got the whole works from WW I'd send it back and ask for one that works smoothly. _________________ Jerry

So after going back and forth with WW, they are telling me they are all relatively stiff since they are new and unworn... my options seem to be to return it and try one from elsewhere, or take apart the one I received and try lubricating it...
I'm not entirely enthusiastic with the response from WW...
Who out there has purchased a new valve, and was able to make it turn with the cable after a little modification? What did you do?... or has anyone purchased a new valve that was great right out of the package? If so, where did you get it from?
Thanks, _________________ 61 DD Panel |

I got mine from WW a couple years ago. It was stiff, but moved easily enough that I could (just barely) operate it from the cab.
I found I had to make an adjustment the length of the sheath so that I could get full movement out of it.
Oddly, I've yet to use it since I installed the new tap.
I suppose I should cycle it a couple times before I put the bus to bed for the winter. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

Runderwood, are you trying to open and close the valve when not installed?
Like holding it in your hands and operating it?
If so, it could just be that its harder to operate by hand than you might expect.
Mine was very hard to operate manually, but when installed, it feels like I'd think the factory would want it tofeel when you pull the cable in and out. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

I am holding it in my hand trying to operate it... i did test fit it on my tank before i had installled the tank in the van, and either way seemed awful tight... (and I'm trying to turn it with a 5" wrench not the little 2" lever)...
i guess i'll try installing it... i do think however, that since i need to make my own lever anyway, I'll make it a little bit longer than normal to get a little more force... shouldn't be issue if it's there's extra throw right?, the knob in the cab would just pull out a bit further than normal... _________________ 61 DD Panel |

I'd watch that, because the solid shaft part of the knob end might get pulled right out of the ferrule with the longer throw. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
