I think I know thw answer to this question but what the heck.
I will soon be starting a restoration or a 58' bug, and am considering separating the body from the pan. It will be all original and will go through just about everything. The chanels are fine and the pan is too.
I will be driving this car, not trailering it. Are there any drawbacks to separating the body? Is it necessary? By the way I want to do this right and am in no hurry.

If you're not in any hurry go ahead and do a body off... You might find something, u never know... You can replace the body to pan seal and see if any bolts need replacing and such...

I agree! If you are in no hurry, separate the two. There is always something that you cant see! Plus it makes doing the work on the front end, brakes and trans-axle alot eaiser to do!
