whats up guys?just got this 1968 bug a few weeks ago from the local vw guy.the car is a one owner near rust free california car (meaning someone tried to patch around the battery tray and did a trashy job).the car has had a engine fire before but was cleaned up good and had a buncha new parts.the engine is a stock 1500 single port motor and im leaving it that way.the plans are to drive it everyday (except when its super cold or snowing) and still restore it.i think the color was originally kings red (the roof is the only original color really surviving).came with black/tan wheels i think and a black interior.hope to find more info soon!!!!!

Nice find and it looks pretty good.

I was thinkin if you spend a couple of hundred bucks you could make it look real good (provided the paint is in as good a shape as it looks). I would:

-Wash the car and go over it with clay bar (it does wonders removing tar, dirt, grime, etc.)
-Replace all the external rubber like fender welt, bumper bracket surrounds, etc).
-Use a rubbing compound and follow it with a polishing compound.
-Wax it.

I bet that the paint would come up really fine and you may be able to postpone a paint job for quite a while.

Good luck.

So it had a engine fire and yet I still see a fuel filter over the distributor Mad You would think the p.o. would learn the first time.

Nope, that is a 68 air cleaner. It has the twin snouts with the large preheat. The 67 had twin snouts with 2 small preheat hoses.
