I'm in the process of trying to rebuild my Fibercraft Baja Swinger f/g dune buggy. The car is currently on a shortened 53 pan that has seen better days so I'm looking into scraping that and going with a Berrien Nostalgia Chassis.
Seems like kind of a stretch, but has anyone has dropped a Swinger body on one of these? I figured I would ask.
I have been doing some research and it seems like the Berrien chassis can range from perfect fit to requiring a lot of body mods. The vw-store.com has pics of an El Lobo (guessing) that needed to be raised 2.5 inches (all f/g work) to fit. I'm not willing to do that much body work- I would go back to a restored pan instead.
Long story short anyone have experience or advice regarding the Berrien Chassis that might help me make a decision?
Thanks. |

The problem is there is no standard for how much the stock pan needed to be shortened to get a certain mfr's body to fit. Every mfr was different. The likelyhood of your body fitting on a berrien frame with no mods is slim to none. I'd suggest calling Berrien and asking them to give you the measurement of the flat side of their chassis (before the pan tapers in at the front) and compare that length to your body. That flat area on the side of the pan is where everyone took the length out of their pan so this measurement will tell you all you need to know about how good the fit will be. |
