Here is why:

I'll stick with the facts and keep my personal comments brief and in (Parenthesis). The spelling errors in his messages are his own errors.

July 5 Lou contacts me and wants the gauges that I have for sale in the high perf section of The Samba. We work out a trade my gauges for rechroming that he offers for ten handles and bezels off of my 56 oval.

July 11 (day 1) I send Lou a box containing three VDO gauges off of a 1953 BMW and ten pieces to be rechromed and returned to me. I email Lou and let him know that the parts are on their way. His reply; "ill let you know when i get them".

July 18 (day 7) I email Lou to inquire about the overdue box and his reply: "yes i just got the box."

July 26 ( day 15) "they should be done this friday." (7/29)

August 5 (day 25) "its almost ready to be picked up weve been kinda backed up they will be done."

Augsut 22 (day 42) "they are being done should be back soon."

August 24 (day 44) i cant return your parts they have already been chromed i just had a run of bad luck you see the CHROME SHOP IS 250 MILES EACH WAY FROM ME...ill get your parts out to you real soon. "

September 8 ( day 59) 'well like I said to the other people ive had a setback ill get the parts to you real soon now."

(continued on the next post I have to put the three year old to bed...don't want to be logged off)

(continued from above)

September 25 (day 76) "hey tim i had lost your email info your things are done its just that the girl there messed up and had all the parts rechromed and polished when i asked for an estimate of time involved sooo ill tell her what to do first now i have a 1500 bill i need some more time ok?"

September 26 (day 77) "ill keep you posted." ( he has never kept me posted about anything going on I was constantly having to email him sometimes a week would go by...)

October 5 (day 86) "whats your mailing adress im going to pick up your parts this weekend."

October 8 (day 89) "ok i got your parts but i need to return these BMW guages ive been trying to sell them but i cant soo we need to work something out i have about $30 into each of your parts these BMW guages are not worth half that to me." ( I'm really sorry Lou but that was not my problem, you have my parts for three months then you want to change the way the rules work. Well I was a nice guy and I offered Lou my November VW budget in its entirety= $200. He accepted this without comment.)

October 8 He sent a picture of the rechromed parts at which point I realized he rechromed one of the mounitng brackets I had told him about from the BMW. I emailed him and told him I was not willing to pay for this part to be rechromed. He reluctantly agreed to the new price of $200-$30=$170. "$30 wont make me any richer."

October 9 (day 90) I email Lou and ask
him to send me the gauges back because I had responded to a "gauges wanted" ad on the Samba and the hobbiest was interested in the gauges. If I could get them back quickly I could then get the money Lou needed faster. Lou's reply: "why don't you send me his info and i will sell him the parts for more than $200 then ill send you your parts." I decline this rather brazen offer because I would not want some unsuspecting hobbiest to get in the middle of our mess.

October 9 "ok heres what im going to do ill send you your gugaes then when you send me your money i will send you your parts." (no kidding sherlock!)

October 20 (day 100( in response to my inquiry of what is going on: "your guages are in cali MY FRIEND WILL GIVE THEM TO YOU WHEN YOU GIVE HIM $200." (So instead of sending the gauges to me he sends them to a "nuetral friend" forcing me to now deal with this new "friend". I will never know why he did this.)

October 20 (day 100) "well your parts are in cali about 2 hours from you give my friend the money and he will give you the gauges then i will send you your parts." (So now I am supposed to give him $200 just to get my gauges back with no mention of the rechromed parts?!!!)

October 21 (day 101) "your guages are two hours from you go and get them. " (that's two hours one way mind you. )

October 25 (day 105) His friend finally agrees to send me the gauges and I receive them the next day. By now my potential buyer is looong gone.)

October 25 I email Lou to let him know that I received the gauges and he now wants me to send him $175. I have no idea where he got this new figure unless he confused me with another customer. So much time has passed anything could have happened to his memory. )

October 25 I let Lou know that I am ready to send him $170 but that I want him to send me a current picture of the rechromed parts since so much time has passed and a hurricane had gone through his area recently. He replies: "ok")

October 29 (day 109) I remind Lou about the pic and he replies: "hey i have a life besides the internet you already have your pic i sent you" (odd thing is he has four full pages of ads on the Samba alone. )

November 2 (day 114) I take a leap of faith and send Lou the previously agreed $170 it arrives in Florida on the 3rd and he cashes it on the 5th.

November 8 (day 120) I email Lou asking if he has shipped the parts and I get no response.

November 10 (day 122) I learn from a Samba forwarded email that: "i have lost my job funds are EXTRA real tight ill get it out in the next few days please understand." ( I feel bad for you Lou but there is no excuse, I just sent you $170 and you knew that you needed to send the parts to me. You should have held enough of that money out to send me the parts.)

November 16 (day 128) "hey dude God is watching you! lol" ( Lou God is watching ALL of us...)

November 17 (day 129) The parts finally arrive. there are only nine of the ten parts in the box. He left out the most valuable piece the ribbed inside door handle to my 57 Kombi. When I ask about it Lou replies:

"i'm tired of your shit go f.... yourself i gave you whats yours now if you want to cut out its your loss. Look me up in your next lifetime i'll be waiting for you there!!!! mention my name but you wont get a good seat lol lol. " (Obviously Lou is having a hard time distinguishing between fairy tale and reality here.)

I'm confused. Did you get your parts or cash back? Is anything still owed?

YES he still has the ribbed inside door handle that I sent him for rechroming. He sent me an inventory list of ten items that includes this part and a picture showing it rechromed. But it was not sent with the other nine parts. I have issues with the chrome work as well but I have no recourse with Lou any longer after his last post to me. Basically I want folks on the Samba to know that Lou is not a straight dealer and he has serious problems.

Ok here is an update on the rechroming from Lou Carman.

The chrome shop rechromed right over the locking pin on the "T" handle. I was able to knock the pin loose but in the process the chrome came off the head of the pin and around the shoulder of the hole. In addition there was chrome in the lock set securing screw so much so that I cannot get the screw into the threads. Ever try to find a chase for threads that small? I'll have to send it to Gabe to get cleaned up.

Both door handles had too much brass and chrome on the inside shoulders of the door handle surrounds which meant that the handles could not be reassembled. All of the chrome and most of the brass had to be removed from the inside shoulders of the surrounds with a dremel in order to get the two pieces to fit together.

The over all quality of the rechroming was "ok" by third party asessment but the above problems meant that much of the rechroming work had to be removed from critical surfaces of the parts which means the job was not satisfactory.

Lou still owes me the ribbed inside door handle which I will never see from him again.

I believe Tim lives in a pretty remote area in the mountains outside the Los Angeles area. Maybe he doesn't have any mail service to the house or maybe he appreciates the privacy a P.O. box provides him with?

So, in the end you got your money, right? Isn't he entitled to the rest of his parts?

Most of the people I know have PO boxes. I guess you haven't figured out why you should have one yet... ask around.

Lou, that PO box thing is a bunch of crap and you know it. Is there something illegal or shady about having a PO box? Laughing If that's the best defense you can come up with... one must really wonder. Rolling Eyes

I also have a p.o. box. Wink In the email, it mentioned that you couldn't sell the BMW guages. So? You accepted them up front.

You also made first contact asking for the gauges, how does that work out that he tried to pawn them off on you?

Again, if he paid you in full, why do you still have his parts?

Well, Tim outlined his case well, very thoroughly, with lots of documentation. You've just come on here spewing nonsense about PO boxes and, according to the other thread about you, spamming others.

I tend to believe Tim. I won't be dealing with you, trades or otherwise.

Unless things have changed in the last few years, the area that Tim lives in does not get home delivery from the post office. Everybody has a PO box.

No need for a rope he hung himself (figuratively here) months ago.

Lou I'm not hiding. As has already been posted and I will confirm here...

The post office does not deliver to my door I have no choice I have to go to the PO in town and pick up my mail at a post office box. I don't have sidewalks, street lights, garbage pick up. But my neighbors know each other and we take care of each other and its a nice place to live.

You sent me an inventory and a picture showing all ten of the rechromed parts and you sent me only nine have come up short Lou.
