Was the factory color L87?
That is an amazing result for "just" 12 cans of spray paint. I realize you did not need to paint the bed but still....nice looking work. How many coats would you estimate you did per panel? Other than taping/sanding, what other prep did you do to the existing multi-colored paint job? _________________ Larry in OB

It's just a rattle can job, Larry. All day Sunday and a few hours Monday, Wednesday, with only the front bumper to do yesterday. Only sanded the rusty spots. Ended up using 15 or 16 cans of the white, then went and bought 9 of the black but used 2 or 3 of them. So, not bad for a paint job under $20. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Sweet blog. Pretty sweet Plump Truck. But without sanding before painting, I want to see pictures in 6 months and a year. My experience gives me low expectations. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

Beautiful truck pyrOman, I just purchased a 68 from a fellow member. What seats are those? looks like there isn't any modification from the stock 1/3 and 2/3 set up, but i could be wrong. Could you post some pics?
Cheers!

Again, it's just a rattle can job, even in 6 months it will look a lot better than it was!

They are vanAgone buckets, extremely comfortable!
Since it now "looks" good on the outside, I will soon clean up the inside. Will try to remember to post pictures of the "frame" where the seats are bolted down. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Oh nice! They look great. I came across some euro eurovan seats and was looking at fitting them in but haven't pulled the trigger. Below is a mock fitting of them in, they sit a bit higher but luckily I'm short so my head doesn't come close to the roof.
Look forward to seeing your set up.

This seating arrangement is just what I was going for in the Plump Truck.
From thedrambadotcom's gallery:

I scored on the front buckets and a dual middle seat. Three buckets up front were too wide and the dual seat was too narrow.
So I opted to position the 2 buckets evenly. BTW, I still have the late buckets which are like those you posted, with the adjustable arm rests, and have no use for them. They "can be had" for cheap! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

The last detail in the de-chroming of the Plump Truck!

My '68 camper came from San Diego too
My frame is from Kearny Mesa VW. Maybe I should give it a little rehab while I'm working on the bus.
I've always wanted a VW truck. I love that you're not making it a show piece and using it instead _________________ ~Kevin

So it has been close to a year now. How's the paint doing? Any chalkiness? Peeling? Any rattle can stripes showing up?
I bought 18 cans of International Orange spray paint (on a closeout) at Ace 6 months ago. It is still in a bag in the garage. I am tempted to let fly on the single cab. But then I am really a stockish person. That single cab needs to spend some serious time on a frame machine before anything else. I'll keep thinking about it. While the '67 sits in the back yard the value continues to rise, no matter what I do. _________________ Larry in OB

Yeah, it's been a little while since I posted ANYTHING here, but here's the latest update on the Plump Truck.
Many things have happened to the Plump Truck, like I had built a 1700 stroker motor which did quite well for it. However, after building a brand spanking NEW 2276 for the Dormy and the leaky old one from it just sitting there, I decided to install it in the truck. While the 1700 did ok, I really do load up the truck often and figured it could really use a bit more power. Now, you would think an engine swap is just that and it'd be a quick job. Well, it took me 3 full days since the 2276 is a full flowed case and I had no provision to have that in the truck! Some modification just needed to be done and while I was at it also decided to get a new muffler to replace the "ok" one that sounded like a rattle can.
Anyway, here's the 1700 out...
And the dual Dellorto'ed 2276...
Mod on the moustache bar...
Filter location...
Size difference between the mufflers...
As usual, I sliced the old muffler ends and weld them up to the new one. At only $33 for the muffler, it beats the hell out of paying over $100 for an empi!
The dual tail pipe was in my stash of parts for about 20 years!
Autozone has them in stock! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |
