so today we are finally able to drive the bus. new carb, and everything and it runs great. about 20 miles into our day trip around town the red light comes on and then a horrible noise from engine compartment. we stop and go to the back and the fan belt has just pop'd right off. so i put it back on and not but 1/4 mile and it comes off again.so then i notice it only seems to come off when it hits high RPMs so we drive in 1st the rest of the way home which was like 2 miles and it took an hour and a half to get home after some pushing, swearing, and standing in the cold. so i was thinking that since its been cold and the engine got warm but the belt got really hot so that made it expand and slip off, so i'm thinking i need a smaller belt because i've pretty much got as many shims on the outside to make it as tight as possible but it still slips off. i need help badly as that winter is coming up and we need the bus to run. oh and its a 1600sp since that probably matters. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

you could have a thousand shims on the outside and it wouldn't make a lick of difference...do you have any left on inside that you can remove? and buy some damn belts anyway. you should always have spares. _________________ Wanted: flipseat parts: rear jump seat, folding chair, cups |

Once a belt flips or gets thrown, it usually needs to be replaced.
First check to ensure the two pulleys are lined up. Also make sure the fan spins freely. _________________ Glenn

the fan spins freely and i didn't have a spare on me and there was no way for me to get home to get one. what size do i need? i thought i had one down stairs but i couldn't find it, plus i have an extra one for the bug but noticed that it was way to small for the 1600 as the beetle is a 1200. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

10x905mm should be the correct belt. _________________ Glenn
