OK, I saw this add, and my “BS Radar” kicked in: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=248995
“Rare-I am told this is the only known factory wood grain side Beetle known.”
HMMM, I wonder.

I dunno, that wood could have been made in a factory, or a garage, why would it matter anyway?
Ehh... not my cup of tea but it really doesn't look too bad. It would be better if it went all the way on to the front 1/4 panels and was made by a really skilled carpenter or something. I think that one is probably just vinyl and trim. Yuck. |

There was a company that made the "woodie" trim pieces to fit the Beetle back in the mid 1970's.
Unfortunately I can't remember the name right now.
They were molded plastic pieces.
I have seen at least two sets sell on e-bay.
So that is definitely not the only one.
Besides, he is missing the pieces that go in front of the doors ! _________________ The problem with reality is that there's no background music !

You ask why would it matter? Because the seller is claiming it is rare and wants a grip for it. _________________ Bill

Now that you have all had your fun with this. The trim is not plastic it is oak. The car was not delivered to Fall River, Ks. That is where it was rebuilt from a solid southern car and that is the information that I got when we bought the car. The person that we bought the car from said that there were only seven cars delivered with this option and it is the only one left known to exist. So unless somebody knows more information or can help to dispell this information. I will continue to claim it as I know it. I am not trying to rip anybody off so if anybody has information to the contrary I will gladly revise the add. |

not original vw factory. <--- see the period? by the way since you believed what someone told i will tell you this the wood grain spec'd beetles had teak gloveboxes to lure the termites away from sides of car-now believe that until someone proves with factory documentation it is not true. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

And what proof do you have that it was not a factory spec. If you have something to prove it I would be willing to look. Also to the other posters nowhere in the ad does it say factory interior. |

can't prove a negative. can't prove something didn't exist....the factory would never put out litterature on something they never built....however, if it is factory, you should be able to find documentation. |

My sorry attempt at humor. I didn't suggest it was made in VW's factory, just some factory somewhere. Sorry.
To the owner, if that's real wood, that's almost kinda dope. Got better pictures? |

It was built by Dr. Porsche and his 6 surfer buddies. They were on a trip to Huntington Beach to make the factory "Cal-Look" Woody. _________________ If it ain't broke.................find something else to fix.

I would say that instead of insisting someone prove it ISN'T factory (which of course it isn't) I'll ask you to find an M-code, or a Birth Certificate for that car that lists it as an option. If you're gonna make a claim like that in your ad...you ought to be able to back it up. Just because the previous owner told you something about the car, to get you to buy it...and you bought it... doesn't mean you need to do the same to the next guy. Good luck with it...and hopefully there is another sucker out there for you... |

I don't think there is anything that could be added to KantDriveFast's voice of reason. That sums it up, no? |
