Wow. Only 63. That's too bad.
The illustrations were the only good part of that book! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

That sucks. I love the drawings he did in the book. I like the one that has the cat in the ladys lap in a cutaway from above and the cat is listed in the legend that is telling what the parts are. |

His illustrations were what made that book great. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I like the one where the guy checking out the car to buy, then gets on the roof and meditates _________________

I still think my exploded drawing of the entire beetle is the most favorite pic of a VW anyone has ever bought for me.
It is just cool to stand and stare at it and realize where everything goes.

I"ve seen a few other car books he illustrated. One for Honda CVCC's and the other for Subaru's from the early Eighties. Neither had the personality of the VW book but were still in the same style. |

His work on the Idiot Book alone was pure genius, and he was much too young to leave this life. Godspeed, Peter. _________________ Organized people are just too lazy to look for stuff

Sorry to hear that. He also illistrated Muir's other book "The Velvet Monkeywrench", very similar style to the idiot's guide. _________________ 1967 Bug, 1967 Ghia

That's a drag, his art brought that book to life. Mebbe he and Muir are sitting in a 57' panel now, smokin a big doobie...."missed ya, man!" |

Had a cute little blonde-haired girl about 4 years old in my bookstore yesterday who plopped down on the floor with an old copy of the "Idiot's Guide" and looked for the pictures while her mom shopped. Every time she found a drawing she laughed and showed it to her mom. Don't see that with car repair books, generally. Rest in peace, Peter. _________________ 71 pop-top |

I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. I remember wearing the tee shirt of the exploded VW and the looks of people when they saw it. And his drawings in Muirs other book, "The Velvet Monkeywrench", were outstanding as well. It is sad that both he and John passed away at such an early age. May he rest in peace. _________________ Kris

he was signing posters at last year's (2004) Busses & Ballons in albuquerque (i don't know about this year).
if he was only 63, those must've been 63 real hard years. he looked more like 163.
