Could somebody please clear this up for me once and for all.

What is the difference between the two different oval hood crests (besides the obvious):

- One version with three tiles on each side of the second bottom row of the castle.

- One version with fourtiles on each side of the second bottom row of the castle.

Which of the two is the most rare?

Thanks for helping!

Chris

Are you asking about the 1954-59 style crest? Post a pic, Maybe one of them is a reproduction?

Not only are the brick count different, the Wolf has small differences as well. The tongue & the tail for example. I believe this topic was covered some time ago regarding the differences

There *was* a thread about this... I can't locate it after a few searches.

I did find the pics though...

Hope that helps.

Thanks, but your NOS and repro pictures are both the 3 brick versions.

I know they are being repro'd, but I was also told both the 3 and 4 brick versions are original. Could it possibly be US market / European market?

A larger possibility would be the 4 brick version, due to it having lots more detail, is an earlier production version. Perhaps 1953-55? And the 3 brick version 1956-59?

I feel like I'm playing the video games at the bar where you find the subtle differences between two pictures. Which row exactly? I have an NOS crest for my '55 that I would be interested to know what's what now also. Rolling Eyes

The OG VW ones I have say PuC on the back and have four tabs instead of the two yours show. PuC and VW are stamped into crest backing plate as well.
