1959 had the ribs. 1960 did not have ribs on rear fenders.

"ribbed" fenders are also commonly refered to as "dot-dash" fenders. The rib being the dash and the bolt hole being the dot. The repops out there, sold in black semigloss, are kinda half ass. The stamping only vaguely resembles the real thing. Find an original set. The fenders, front and back are one of the first things scrutinized on any early car. Dot-dash in the rear and wire tubes out of the buckets up front. They are out there, you'll find a set.

i am looking for pair of rears for my 56

a scandinavian guy had a pair of these for sale at the volksworld show a few years ago. they needed work but were fairly sound

from memory he told me the main indications for an og pair of the 56-59 rear fenders were
1) the ribbing between the bolt holes
2) the (3 or 4?) drain holes on the lower trailing edge on the rear of the fender

just like the ribs, i think these drain holes appear on some (if not all) of the reproduction fenders?

i'm pretty sure the og fenders are made of thicker gauge metal too?

OK, I measured the distance from the verticle portion of the fender where it bolts to the body to the center of the tail light lense. It's exactly 7". On the bottom rear lip of the fender there are 3 drain hole near where it bolts to the body. They measure, from the fender/body edge:
1- 1 1/8" out, 2- 3 1/2" out and 3- 6" out. From the 3rd hole up to the center of the tail light lense measures 9 3/4". I'm sending Ryan a few more pics, where the tape measure isn't over-exposed and you can actually read it, taken from the underside of the fender to each of the nuts for the tail light mounting bracket studs. The measurement from the bottom, up, is taken from the top edge of where the lip curls up.
Let me know if anyone wants anymore measurements. My car is kind of taken apart so it's easy to get to everything.

Hey guys, I was not online over the holiday weekend and am now just getting back to this thread.

It looks like you got the information you needed, and more.
I would like to see pictures of the mounting flange on those Zito fenders, just so people could see the difference.

This won't be all that helpful, but I've seen those fenders in person and can describe the ribs.
The ribs are certainly there but they aren't as deep, as wide or as long as the originals. They're better than not having ribs at all and it is a new fender so you won't have to deal with repairing rust or tears or who knows what, but you will still have to deal with doing some body work on them, as you would with any "new" body part. There's a good chance they would be cheaper also.
I guess you just have to decide how authentic you want to be. I found my fenders after looking for about 10 years for $25 for the pair with one complete oval tail light so they are out there and you can still get a deal on them BUT it may take a looooonnnggg time.

Hey guys,
A friend and I just found an early fender yesterday. I'm nearly sure it's for sale. Smile
I think it's the pass side but not positive. It needs work (as they all do) - at least one tear on the fender lip and the area between the fender slot and the overider hole is torn. It's certainly fixable and probably for sale. It's near Dallas, Tx.

On my '61 I have a "bimple fender" on only one side of the car. '61 was the last year of the glass lense taillight. The car had rear end damage, so they might have swithched it out for the dimple fender. The other side is deffinitly aftermarket. Not too long ago at a Pomona swapmeet So. Cal Impots had a crate full of the Brazilian made dimple fenders. Now, I don't know if that's what they carry in their store or not.

Here are some pics of the Zito repro rear fenders with dimples.

They are SUPER thin gauge! Dimple stampings are clear at the bottom of the fender but are nearly non exsistant at the top. No holes drilled for tail light bracket only one large hole for wiring.

Gerson / Klassic Fab has the dot / dash rear fenders in the works as we speak. Hopefully soon as I just bought his correct 53/55 fronts and they are good quality correct shape.

This fender is $770 euro which equals to over $1000 per fender once shipped. Shocked Shocked Shocked I'm sure Klassic Fab's fenders will be much more reasonable in price and equal in quality.

Yes he just says it’s a pain in the ass. He had a bunch at Prado a few weeks ago. I bought mine when he came out for the Texas Classic. Saved on the shipping.
