Use in both, the CB is a great way of talking with others expecially if you get split up, that and a GPS. _________________ For a Good time |

Yup, it would be. Ive had a CB in my baja from the time I got it running. I have one in my van also.
Get the tallest antenna you can fit. The 48" SS and the 102" SS from radio shack are the best mobile antennas, even better than Firestik coils. I have the 102 on my baja. Whatever antenna you get, Dont forget to tune it to the (CB)radio.

Great for trail riding or finding people at the dunes, also great for road trips. Mount the ant. anywhere it won't whack anything else. PLus, you can make you CB a PA and yell at people. |

Depends on how you use your car... some times it's just another piece of clutter.
We have one on our rail... cool toy...
Check to ensure that you have the same frequencies as hand helds... many folks don't know there are real CBs out there. _________________ Dub Infested- PART WI$H LI$T-CLICK |

Dont forgett to have your CB "Peaked and Tuned" at the local radio shop.
Most pawn shops that sell lots of CBs can hook you up with that and don't forgett that they are a great source of inexpensive radios.
I think everyone that is in a baja club should have radios, they would be indespensible on long runs from pointA to pointB and reduce the need to stop, get out and talk about whatever issues the run is having...but that may just be the Army side of me talking, can't have a people running around without comms. now can you?
Really though I know of rednecks in GA and AR that have been in some trouble out hunting/playing around and gotten help from others by getting on the radio calling out to anyone who can pick them up on the radio.
If your on the interstate don't forgett to get on there and ask the truckers for a "Bear Report" so you know about the speed traps those pecker heads are running that day. _________________ If it's good for ancient Druids, runnin' nekkid through the wuids, Drinkin' strange fermented fluids, it's good enough for me! - Pete Seeger |

I've always had CB radios in my Bajas and my 4x4. VERY handy. But lately with the introduction of the FRS/GMRS radios I tend to like them better.
I have both but usually most of the folks in my club use the FRS radio.
They don't require external antennas and are very portable. The one I use now is the Garmin Rino that is a combination FRS/GMRS and a GPS unit.

do they still make the vintage types- the long flexible springmounted type? i've got the a springmount on my buggy but with a regular telescoping radio antenna. i wanted to keep the look vintage 70s.
interchangable for size would be nice? was thinking of getting the big oype that bends and attaches to the front of the car, then switching to a shorter normal version for closer to home |

Advertized is 2 miles FRS and 5 miles GMRS. They'll do much better in direct line of site. They transmit and receive extremely well inside a vehicle. _________________ My Albums

Unfortunately that antenna will not tune to CB frequencies. I would recommend taking it back and picking up a CB antenna you will also need an SWR meter unless the CB has one built in. The SWR meter lets you tune the antenna. That first link has some good quick release and fold down antenna mounts. |

What is the tallest antenna you can legally use on your bug? Is there a restriction per state???
I was thinking of an 8' antenna, w/ a drop down....or one of the....firestick I think it is that is flexible, so I could lower it and tie it off during transport.
I like the idea of a tall antenna, with a flag at the top. I seen an ad in Hot VWs this month. _________________ Look at my for sale ads.

Also...
I just purchased a Cobra 19DXIII. Is this a good one? I got it cheap, so I didn't do any research.
I want to run 2. One in my truck and one in the bug. Should I put this one in my truck or bug? Do I need a better one for the bug, since it sits lower? _________________ Look at my for sale ads.

Cobra is very good, The hieght of the vehicle isn't important. It's all in the antenna and it's installation and tuning. One thing you need to consider when installing the antenna on a Baja is try to stay away from mounting it on fiberglass body parts un-less you use a ground planeless antenna like a marine cb antenna. Standard antennas require a large somewhat flat metal area at the base to reflect the standing wave. This is called a "ground plane" as is not to be confused with electrically grounding your antenna. It will still work but not the best. You could encounter dead spots even at close range. _________________ My Albums
