|
|
Hi
I have a '77 Karmann Gipsy and Have been asked to write a feature on the van!
There seems to be very little info available on Gipsys in General and the only thing I know is that there were less than 1000 of them produced on a Type 2 base!
Can anybody point me in the right direction to find the info on this van please. Apparently Karmann only hold records going back to 1995!
Thanks

Wow, the first pic looks like a jazzed up Australian Country Buggy or Sakbayan!
I like it!
Was this just a design team's work? Any actual vehicles produced? |

as far as I know it was only a prototype which was made before the Thing, one or two in a VW museum exists as far as I know of. Never heard of it being in production so I'm assuming the originator of the thread is talking about the bus camper conversion. Still odd Karmann would use the same name in two different models |

It's called a Safari Gyspy (as far as I know) made by Karmann but it does have a Karman Mobil emblem so the name's a little confusing. Sorry, I only have pictures, no other info
found this, a bunch of picts:

This is mine!
I just need some info - it is one os 1000 built by Karmann on a T2 base and sold in Germany. This one came from Nuremberg!
I have been asked to do an article on it and kind very little info on them on the internet!
I was hoping somebody may have something in English as running what I have found on the German sites through a translator gives some very strange info!

Ugly it may be, rare for sure!
It is very cool though. On board shower, toilet, cooker, etc and a massive double bed!
To me the best compromise between a modern Camper and a VW!
I am led to believe there are 8 in England and 6 of those are in the town I live in! The van is being done up slowly and will be pretty soon!

You amaze me, I am beginning to believe that you have a picture of every weird car ever built..... How do you do it?
Most of them look like you took the photo yourself.
Hows the VW bug coming? |

I am sure we have the original instruction manual kicking around - but no brochure etc, I keep my eye out but not found anything yet!
I know of 6 in my town, 1 that I saw at a show on Sunday (with a rather unflattering overcab addition) as well as one other in the UK
I'd be interested to know of how many there are still out there - so if anybody has one can they get in touch with me!
