Dang, those are two guys who are very happy they weren't wearing their safety harnesses! Shocked

Guess the urban legend stating that VWs float on water doesn't apply to buggies.

I've been contemplating nose and tail ideas for this all day. I was thinking a Miller Indy racer replica would be a good thing to make out of this. Very Happy

I wonder how a car like that would look/ work if you trimmed off the shock towers and ran with friction shocks? Seems it would look a lot less like a kit car and a little more true to the era the car "came from"?

Now is this a Ford abortion or a Volkswagen abortion? Or a repost? Who knows!

There were VW-based T-bird kit cars in the early 80s, but they were all 1957-style. This appears to be a Regal Roadsters kit car modified to fit onto a VW pan.

That would be pretty cool, would ride rough, but that'd fit with the look and feel of the car. I was thinking it'd look good made up like a 1930s Frank Kurtis special, with a Speedway Motors track-roadster nose and grille, a Duvall windshield, either a boat tail or a rounded rear, either way with a lid for engine access, the "rivets" ground off, streamlined fenders, '39 Chevy headlights, engine-turned dash with Stewart-Warner gauges, banjo steering wheel, a bench seat and either black or navy blue paint with a tan seat and interior panels.

(this is about the partial Alfa Romeo Monza kit car, not the V-Bird)

You haven't thought about this at all have ya? Laughing That would be an amazing car, Ridler award type car. I'd normally say go round tail but if you could pull of this type off ( Auburn Speedsters ) instead of the mid 20's packard style then I'd sway on over to the boat tail idea. Track style grill would take the cake though! You gotta get someone to do a drawing..

BTW Getting the books you suggest on pre war cars for christmas, can't wait and the wife thanks you for helping her out!

Buy the 31 Alfa for it's wire wheels. Sandblast them & paint them grey. Cool

Good idea... I may very well, and save the Alfa kit to convert it to a Type 4-engined, Frank Kurtis-inspired custom later on.

I do have holiday shopping to pay for and oral surgery, new glasses and possibly a new-to-me non-VW daily driver early next year, so that will all have to be taken into consideration.
