Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.

I don't know. $4500 for that looks to be about right for the condition. Why does it have an 1100cc engine, though?

Nothing about the windshield or roof strikes you as odd?

I saw that they took a sedan and made a convertible, I guess I just expect more shock value when I see posts in here. Sometimes people post pics of cars with weird paint or rims. So, yeah possibly a homemade ( or professionally done ) convertible job but, we're talking about a car in a foreign country where this seems to be the norm for a lot of vehicles.

Huh. I didn't notice that it was originally a sedan. I'm not that familiar with verts. In that case I'd be plenty worried about what was done to reinforce the chassis. Without the steel roof section that 'new' vert will flex quite a bit if it wasn't gusseted or stiffened with some square steel.

in the 80s, after karmann stopped making 1303s, german coachbuilder eller started to make verts using mexican sedan bugs, and the final product looked similar to this one. they had the needed reinforcements (under-pan box sections, rollbar inside windshield frame...) and were a moderate success in europe (one ended up in the vw museum in wolfsburg).

that said, despite the similarity in the looks I'd say this is not one of these as eller cabrios had plastic rear side windows that were part of the hood and retained the vents above the decklid. so, it may be a product of another, lesser-known coachbuilder or... just a homemade bastard Laughing

I just...wow. I keep coming back and trying to get my head round the "why" of that car, and keep seeing more stuff, like the low profile tyre on the front and standard but narrower rubber on the back.
Definitely the best one we've had recently.
