I am not sure who built it.
I know that I will be forsaking one of my favorite things here (net anonymity), but Chuck Mathis was my step dad for several years. I am pretty sure he painted this bug. I guess that might have been a cool paint job in the 80's? His paint schemes tend to be retro but of a pretty good quality.
I got these pictures from my mom last night. They toured the show car circuit with this bug and a radical custom 65 Chevy Impala built by Harry Bradley. As a matter of fact, it was this one (but it was painted white by Chuck):
They sold the bug to some guy in Texas while they were there. I remember being upset about it...but other cars came along.
Now that I have a convertible bug, my interest in this car has been rekindled even though I have not seen it since the early 80's. I posted elsewhere that I'd love to know its whereabouts.

Very cool.
Thanks for the info. _________________ Scott

This one used to be in Boise, but I haven't see it for a couple years.
Here are a couple more taken at the same show in Boise:
And there is always the "parade bus" that was on eBay a couple of years ago. It was supposedly driven in Richard Nixon's inauguration parade.

It's been in here a few times. The photo looks like it was taken at Burning Man. The same car, or a similar one has also been pictured in Rachel, Nevada on the Extraterrestrial Highway. |
