US $7,299.00

and lower than any listed single cab on TheSamba as of a few days ago.

Goodness, I'm surprised he had the reserve so low, especially after having it listed for originally such high expectations.
I'd just want the gates, anyhow.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2078465

i saw this description: feb 1956 subhatch wolfsburg springframe westy Price: 25,000.00
Rarest of rare Wolfsburg springframe westy.

so i looked at the pictures and wondered what exactly makes this a rare springframe westy...

then i read this:

The rear interior was lost at some point but I will put the buyer in touch with the folks recreating a very short run of rear interior.

a bit of a let down, really. WDYT?

All the value is in the kit, no kit, it just a kombi with a hole in the roof.

^^^^ Exactly.

You could look for many years to try and buy an original early Westy springframe setup but it may be easier to locate Jimmy Hoffa's body. Wouldn't be anything wrong with putting a nice reproduction camper setup back there and using it but the value as its sits is not there.

Since the sunroof looks weird and non-original-style to me, maybe it was a 15-Window with a hacked in sunroof or something else straight from the 1980s... like some of the weird colors and shapes for some of the interior.

Check out that parcel tray, for example:

I was watching that too and don't understand the final price, other than 2 people clearly wanted it bad.

It looks like the 2 top bidders and probably the 3 top bidders all sniped it

Without those 2 last bids, it would have been $3500, which I think was the fair market value?

there was crazy bidding early, then they retracted their bids and didn't bid again. wonder if they saw something that wasn't quite right? crazy bidding all over the place on that one.

The seller said he didn't want to ship internationally and cancelled all foreign bids.

The last pressed bumper era westy tent I saw for sale was $7500 and that was maybe 6-7 years ago. It sold.

I was the second bidder on this auction. I was kind of luke warm about it. If I wanted it bad I would have bid higher.

I've never seen another orange & white ribbed bumper era westy tent.

All tents from this era are very hard to buy at any price.

Out of my league, I was shocked it went that high. I wish I had the bus in the pics

Ah-ha, I couldn't tell it was Orange/White from the pics or that it was an early style tent.
I didn't look at it super closely with an eye to bid.
The Bus pictured was cool though, I as thinking it was actually a '57 since it had a center brake light lid?
It didn't have bubble taillights though.
Did anyone grab all the extra pics they posted on the external site?
I see it's gone now. Boo.

Likely a semaphore Bus.

Likely a semaphore Bus.

Here's the one pic, looks like 57-61 style USA taillights but likely upgraded:

Looks like you're right. Hard to make out details with such a blurry and low resolution old pic. I don't see any evidence of reflector holes but the pic quality is bad so...

Another interesting detail is that it has the pinstripes which many/most early Westy's didn't seem to have. Possible dealer added detail?

I was watching this auction too. When it ended, I made the "Wow, honey, look at the price for this tent!" mistake. If I end up dead and suddenly there's an influx of Westy parts on eBay, you know what happened Exclamation
