Monster bus approaching good deal territory.
I sure wish it was a lot nicer, even at a much higher price. _________________ .

Its definitely a cool bus but I dont see it as a monster bus. Monster means something significantly rarer to me. Logos and walkthrough are cool for sure and I like the bus but calling it a monster might be a stretch. A walkthrough panel is fairly common, especially 59+. Regardless, its getting closer to a proper selling price and I hope we get to see it on here being tidied up properly. |

Fair deal, maybe even a good deal, given that a similarly done 21 window sold on BAT for $25k more recently. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Wrong headlight buckets too. When did the speedometer housing change from sharp to rounded corners? Was it 62? |

Late late '61 model year, like June 1961. _________________ .

Only because I'm interested in the history of vehicles that used to belong to bands. I looked up the name stenciled on the door (Shakey Jake and the D.T.s). Looks like one if these busses used to be the tour bus for the short lived (1989-1990 from what I could find)Seattle based blues band. Not to be confused with Ann Arbor Michigan based blues legend Shakey Jake Harris.

Late June even.

So that would put it between June 12th and June 20th.
Anyone out there with a late june '61 bus between those dates so we can narrow it down even more?
This is one of those changes that isn't mentioned anywhere in factory literature as far as I can tell. Total bus nerd stuff... _________________ .

So that's why I couldn't find it in "progressive refinements". I was trying to figure out how much of the front of this latest Sotheby's bus was original, and I knew the speedo housing change was right around the time the bullet signals disappeared on the US models. |

I sold the 21-window bus that door came from in 2007:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=436243
From the ad text “The front doors read "Shakey Jake and the D.T.'s.. Some of you may remember this bus, It belonged to Jason Lollar (Jake) who was a well-known artist in this area (Seattle) and frequented the VW shows back in the 80'ies. ”
I expect the bus still exists, but they may have upgraded the doors. I don’t think many 21-windows were being cut up between 2007 and now. I think we sold it to someone in central California. |

Interesting, Jason Lollar is now a VERY famous custom pick-up builder for guitars.

Apparently the band is still around too, looks like they just go by "Shakey Jake" now, no D.T.s anymore. Must have got sober. |
