i know you guys dont pay much attention from busses sold abroad, but this one
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2579644
looks weird to me. I spotted already:
- no belly pans?
- cheesy looking m-plate attachment _________________ Aug '58 pressed bumper SO23

Looks like the vin stamping in the engine bay may have been welded in too. I can see what looks to be a seam just above it. |

I agree on the M-code plate rivets.
I think it has outer belly pans but not inner?
That is strange and definitely means look closer at everything |
I think the old idea of no belly pans meaning fake deluxe was more likely to be true in the nineties.
It can also mean that the pans rusted off, and were not replaced.
Also, since new repro belly pans can be bought and installed, and so many buses have have welding done, that makes it harder to say them being there or not means anything really.
I like that there are pics of the numbers, but I think it's funny that there is only one pic of the outside of the bus. If I was interested in buying, I would ask for more pictures.
If I was going to have a new/fake M-code plate on a fake 23, I would have it the same colour as the bus. It saying BGR SR on the M-code plate makes me suspect it is the right plate, and the bus was re-painted and the plate riveted back on, and that it is not a super correct restoration.
The bus below with bullet turn signals, wheel arch flares, and outie vents seems okay for a euro sold Nov 1962 build.
I have looked at the ad only, don't know the seller or the bus, it could be a complete turd. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

It doesn’t instil a shit-ton of confidence when the main photo is of the Bus being loaded onto a flat deck tow truck… |

If you’ve seen these for sale save your self the time and trouble. I spent my day yesterday driving to the arm pit of West Virginia and then up an old logging road to the top of mountain for the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had looking at buses. The wolfsburg single cab has frame rot and is bondo bucket but has potential with the exception there is NO vin number whatsoever on the truck. Price was over 14 grand. The deluxe appeared very decent except the roof is completely smashed which was not mentioned and the ad pictures were taken intentionally to not show this, crazy price as well. The owner recently acquired the land with these buses on it as a freebie. At this point all he wants is vw people to come and educate him on everything he has.
Normally when things like this happen I keep my mouth shut and just keep diggin but this guy, he really chapped me as I knew I was just used for the entire day as he laughed when I told him I realized what was going on. He’s an ex game warden still on a power trip living on top of a mountain of a poor community pissin on anybody he can. So good luck!

Is there a good reference on what is average much for a driving single cab these days? I've always owned beetles and stay decently on top of those prices for the different models. However, I am looking at moving to a Single Cab and see the 1961 and the 1960 posted here but really just not sure on prices. Not looking for a perfect bus, just one that I can drive around while I finish my recent beetle build, then I can take on the truck if needed.
I know where to look for rust and the usual suspects, just not prices and that area. |

The blue one is the better deal based on the photos. Mostly because it comes with the hoops and cover which is about $3500 or so.
Prices for projects, patina, driver level and half assed restorations are down. I would figure these single cabs would sell somewhere in the high teens to low 20s these days. Since the blue one has sat since July? I’d say an offer in the low 20s is a good starting point. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

With semaphores.
The bullets don't look like they're pointing in the right directions. I wonder if someone added them when regulations required retrofitting indicators, or to cover up the holes left from aftermarket indicators. _________________ Andy
